Today we’d like to introduce you to LaKenya Kopf.
Hi LaKenya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The origin story of my entrepreneurial journey is becoming more common in the military world. As a military spouse, we were constantly PCSing every three years. While most companies state they are open to hiring military spouses, most frown upon training new employees with the knowledge that they will lose them when new (military) orders come through. I needed something that could move with me – whether we were stateside or overseas. It initially started as a side hustle; however, as we welcomed children into our family, I enjoyed the flexibility of owning my own business. I was able to be present as a mother for my children while still working and contributing to the growth of my business. As my children have gotten older, I have had the pleasure of demonstrating hard work, as well as being in a position to give back. When my youngest son starts telling me business ideas because he “wants to own a business like Mommy” one day, there is no greater drive than that.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Any entrepreneur who tells you the road to growing their business has been smooth has either been more fortunate than most or is truly in denial! The growth of a business is like a rollercoaster – it is a slow climb when trying to figure out your niche, your audience, and your platform, where you can be heard over everyone else trying to gain traction. Once you figure it out, it is a quick drop into marketing, consultation calls, and onboarding your first clients – it’s exhilarating, overwhelming, and everything you hoped for. Then you start hitting the corkscrews – in my case, COVID – where the entrepreneur pool exploded and competition was more fierce than ever. Then came the push to video formatting versus text, pay-to-play social media, and finally the introduction of AI, where now everyone was an expert in anything with the right prompt. Suddenly, you find yourself accelerating forward, being thrown left and right, and not sure if you are going to survive until the end of the ride. That is where I feel I am right now. Business is great, but is it as easy as it was 10 years ago? Absolutely not, but you learn to pivot, be persistent, and give yourself grace as each new struggle presents itself.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Kopf Consulting, we specialize in the tools small businesses, entrepreneurs, and solopreneurs need to support their leads. My primary focus is on the backend tech tools that support the lead generation process and the buyer’s journey. With over 18 years of experience, I provide Virtual Tech Assistance, supporting entrepreneurs across a variety of industries.
While my clients utilize my services for an assortment of tasks, my specialty is managing and building workflow automations within various email marketing systems and CRMs, maintaining content management systems (such as WordPress and Squarespace), and creating integrations using tools like Zapier to automate processes – the foundation of most businesses. From websites that house your content, to squeeze pages for lead generation, to CRM platforms that manage your pipeline, and email systems that nurture your audience, I ensure all of the moving pieces work together seamlessly.
At the end of the day, my goal is to alleviate the stress and frustration that often comes with managing backend tech for digital marketing systems, especially for small business owners who are already wearing multiple hats.
What sets Kopf Consulting apart is my hands-on, personalized approach. I don’t outsource the work, and I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Every system is tailored to the specific needs of each client, and I prioritize not just implementation, but education – so my clients understand the tools they’re using and feel confident moving forward.
While this shouldn’t set me apart – continuing education should be standard for any entrepreneur – I am committed to it, earning additional certifications each year to stay current with evolving technology and industry standards. This allows me to provide solutions that are both relevant and effective in a constantly changing digital landscape, which is evolving faster than ever with the introduction of AI.
Out of everything I have accomplished in the 18 years Kopf Consulting has been in business, what I am most proud of is the reputation we have built. The majority of new clients come from word-of-mouth referrals – fellow entrepreneurs speaking our name when I am not in the room. That support has helped the business grow, gain notoriety, and flourish, which is a far cry from struggling to be seen in the beginning.
I am also proud of the longevity of my clients, with some having been with me for well over a decade. I have become an integral part of their processes, a member of their business family, and a trusted voice in their decisions. At the end of the day, Kopf Consulting is about more than managing tech – it’s about providing peace of mind, stability, and dependability so clients can focus on what they love, knowing I’ve got their back.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
It should be concerning that the first thing I did when I saw this question was laugh. I’m not going to sugarcoat it – I was a spitfire growing up. I was a rough-and-tumble kid who couldn’t sit still. If I wasn’t climbing trees or jumping fences, I was exploring, creating, or finding other ways to get into trouble. As an only child, I needed something to do with my time.
There were two things my mother found infuriating about me (but loved just the same): my curiosity – because I was always taking things apart to see how they worked (I think she tried to hide the toolbox from me at one point) – and my independence. I was that kid who would take their bike, and later their car, leave at dawn, and not return until dusk – and this was before cell phones, so she had no idea where I was half the time.
Computers were always a strong interest of mine. I loved understanding how they worked, tinkering with them, and I naturally had a knack for technology.
