Today we’d like to introduce you to LaNisha Nazon.
Hi LaNisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Being a part of the beauty industry was the furthest thing from my mind when I started 13 years ago. I made extra money in college by doing hair for some of the ladies in my dorm. A dance group was holding open auditions for hairstylist so I auditioned. The dance coach asked me if I had experience in doing makeup, which I didn’t but I told her I did. She asked me to go back to my dorm and draw something creative on my face. I went home and searched on ask jeeves for some fun images. I settled on one and free-handed the image onto my face. After being accepted to the team I realized that I was pretty good with makeup and pursued the career shortly after leaving school.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for me. Everything about this industry I had to learn myself. In the beginning stages of my career, it was almost taboo to share with other. I had to learn to adapt and pivot often. My biggest struggle was finding clientele that were my ideal clients. I didn’t know exactly how to build up my business to sustain me without having to work a full-time job.
We’ve been impressed with Soft Glamour Beauty LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The name of our business is Soft Glamour Beauty. We are a faith-based business with a team of professional hair and makeup artist that provide in studio or on-demand services. We are known for our soft & natural approach to makeup which is quite popular amongst brides. For the last 12 years, Soft Glamour Beauty was a one-woman show. However, in September of 2020, we expanded the business so that we are able to hire on additional artist to take care of multiple clients. Not only do we provide extra work for our team members we educate them on how they too can become amazing business owners themselves. What I’m most proud of is that God gave me the strength to do something that I was most scared of and that was to build out a bridal team. I didn’t want any added pressure but God has truly blessed us since taking that leap. What I think sets us apart is not only is God the CEO of our business but the relationships we build with our client keeps them coming back for more.
How do you define success?
Success is living and being the person that God has ordained you to be. Success is freedom. Freedom of my time, freedom of my finances, freedom from worry, freedom from opinions.
