Today we’d like to introduce you to Leah Morgan.
Hi Leah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After years of working for a big box spa, I realized there was a need for more deep tissue and sports massage specialists. In 2018, 30 clients followed me to start my business, doing just that. I rented a room in the back of a yoga studio, and within a year, I was booked out 3 three months. I decided to hire a friend to help with the overflow, and we started getting busier. In 2022, we expanded the business by building additional therapy rooms, hiring more therapists, and opening a storefront. Shortly after this we added continuing education for massage therapists and bring in a teacher every month for state-required CE classes. This allows myself and my staff to stay current and keep learning.
My challenge in creating Fit Life has been that the business was founded on my work and reputation. People expect my style, so I’ve had to train each therapist I hire in what I think people come to me for. So far, it’s worked really well, and the therapists who have stayed with me are fully booked and well-loved. I’ve been able to create a style that can be (mostly) replicated. Most of our clients are athletes who have goals they are working toward,s either for a sporting event or just for recovery. It has been our pleasure to walk with them on their journey to success in reaching their goals!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most difficult part of growing the business is finding qualified therapists who are committed and want to build their clientele. I’ve hired so many who didn’t stay long. It’s very frustrating for me because I lose money training them and running specials to promote them.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Fit Life Massage and Wellness, we pride ourselves on taking good care of our clients. Many of them become our friends, and we are a big part of their lives. Their wins are our wins, and their losses are our losses. We have some really incredible athletes who do amazing things, and we’re honored to be a part of that. Our therapists take a very detailed approach first in the intake process and in treatment. We try to understand the factors leading to the pain problem, but also lifestyle issues that can contribute. Since we offer nutrition coaching, this is just another tool to help the body heal and reach optimal performance. Overall we want everyone that we treat to feel like their concerns are heard and understood. We also have a big network of wellness professionals so if we can’t help then we know how to refer.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
Taking special care to understand the client’s biggest pain point and not only get them feeling better, but give them the tools they need to continue feeling better. We aren’t trying to take people’s money; we truly want to see them feel better in as few sessions as possible. This is important to build trust so they will know we have their best interest at heart.
