We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wrote a quote on instagram months ago that said the following: “To successfully be a self employed business owner you have to be comfortable with a level of stress that would destroy most.”
Being a founder isn’t glamorous. It’s waking up every day to fight fires you didn’t start. It’s losing sleep, money, friends, and sometimes yourself — all because you believe in something no one else can see yet. An industry dominated by men, means you can have 30 years of experience and still get mansplained by a 15-year-old with a laptop. It’s sorta fun though as you mature. There is an inside smile now as my assistant gets called, “sir” and I get called “sweety”. If they’re calling me ‘Sweety,’ they must not be reading the room.
And the music business is a very moving business that must be survived only by studying the changes daily. That’s a pain.
The music business isn’t built on dreams — it’s built on who survives the dream sellers.
Everyone promises fame, followers, and “connections,” but most are just selling shortcuts to the desperate.
Real artists don’t chase fake hype. They build brick by brick, song by song, heartbreak by heartbreak.
If you’re not ready to fight for your art — someone else will gladly take your money for pretending to.
The hustle business is alive and well and I break it apart when needed.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Septien Entertainment ?
Septien Entertainment Group and Parallel Playy are where tomorrow’s icons are built — not by luck, but by strategy.
Our alumni include Grammy winners, chart-toppers, and global stars. But our real edge isn’t who we’ve trained — it’s how we train. We don’t teach karaoke. We build brands. Our focus begins with branding the artist and defining what makes them unforgettable and marketable. . We teach songwriting that fits that brand, helping them craft songs that tell their authentic story. We train them on an instrument so they can create music that’s truly theirs. We shape stage presence and banter that feel real — not rehearsed — so every moment connects with the audience.
Then, we market them within their brand, ensuring their music and message reach the right audience across every platform. Because a great artist isn’t just heard: they’re recognized and followed!
We’re the only artist development company in the U.S. that manages every stage of an artist’s career — from training and branding to production, performance, and marketing. We also specialize in building and monetizing young teen and tween influencer brands, often helping them start earning within six months
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
OK… I used to think I was hot stuff.
I’d been on the road for 10 years singing classical music — opera, gowns, the whole deal. I thought, “Well, naturally, it’s time to go be a pop star. After all, I’m good at stages all over the world” So I pack up, head to Nashville — big dreams, big hair — ready to take over the world.
I walk into my first studio session, sing my heart out, and this producer looks at me in a blank stare and goes, “Are you gonna sing like that?” And I say, “Uh… yes?” And he says, “Well, don’t. You suck.”
In opera you can just stand there and look elegant and your voice does the work,
but in pop, you actually have to feel something. Who knew?
So he tells me, “Go be a diesel sniffer.” “ A groupy”. Meaning: follow the tour buses, hang around real bands, study what makes their frontmen move people. I thought, “Wow, I’m paying this guy and he knows I can fire him, so he must be telling me the truth”.
So for two years, I followed bands around the country, took notes, wrote eight manuals on what makes a performer magnetic and came back armed with a whole new system. And….I realized pop commercial music is much harder than classical singing. In pop music you have to sing, entertain a crowd, interpret your story telling differently every time you perform, lead a band, dance, to both stage presence and great stage banter, know your audience, have gimmicks ready for when you read the crowd, and look amazing. When I sang opera, you could stand perfectly still, belt a high C, and everyone would clap — mostly because they finally woke up. The beauty of the voice was the show. Movement? Emotion? That was for the lighting guy. Popular music was a study unto itself PER ARTIST.
First artist I tested it on? Jessica Simpson.
We launched her out — and today she’s worth $1.5 billion. And we have trained many A listers since then. Not bad for a former opera girl with a notebook full of diesel fumes. And here’s the kicker: the industry keeps changing, fans have more power than ever,
so honestly… I’m still a diesel sniffer. Still learning. Still watching. Still evolving.
