Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa & LaTrell.
Hi Marissa & LaTrell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Soul Sent began with a sudden idea, one that felt clearly placed on our hearts by God.
At the time, LaTrell and I were sitting together working through a business plan for something completely different. We weren’t thinking about candles at all. But in that moment, LaTrell casually said, “Why don’t we do candles?” Something about it felt right, simple, creative, and aligned.
From there, I began researching. What started as curiosity quickly turned into purpose. In 2022 That’s when Soul Sent was born.
In the beginning, our goal wasn’t just to enter the candle industry, It was to create differently. We wanted to bring creativity, intention, and meaning into a space that often felt trend-driven and rushed. As we grew, so did our clarity. Over time, Soul Sent began to transition into something much deeper than candles alone.
Our journey naturally led us into becoming a faith-rooted fragrance house one that extends beyond a single product and into everyday life. We realized fragrance could be a vessel. A way to create atmosphere, invite peace, and quietly point people back to God in their homes.
Our vision for Soul Sent is to spread the gospel through fragrance not loudly, but intentionally by becoming a part of people’s daily routines and home essentials. From lighting a candle, to refreshing a room, to creating a space of rest, we want Soul Sent to live with you.
We often say that with Soul Sent, our hope is for people to be able to furnish their homes and their lives with Soul Sent products surrounding themselves with peace, intention, and presence.
What began as a single idea has grown into a calling, and we’re still walking it out with faith, gratitude, and purpose.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and we don’t believe it was meant to be. Like most businesses built from the ground up, we faced early challenges around learning the industry, navigating finances, balancing family life, and figuring things out as we went. But one of the biggest struggles was allowing Soul Sent to evolve. Letting go of what we originally thought the brand would be and trusting what it was becoming required faith, patience, and obedience.
A defining turning point came earlier in 2025, when everything seemed to collide at once. Marissa became very sick after the medication she had been relying on for her ulcerative colitis suddenly stopped working. We found ourselves trying to maintain the business while also fighting to get her health back to a place of stability a season that was physically, emotionally, and mentally draining.
At the same time because timing has a sense of humor we were also confronting the weight of everything we had built over the last four years. And just as we were preparing to launch our holiday collection, Instagram decided to disable our page. Right on schedule.
That season forced us to slow down in ways we hadn’t planned. It stripped away the noise and reminded us that Soul Sent was never built on momentum, platforms, or perfect timing. It was built on faith, purpose, and community.
What anchored us through that season wasn’t hustle or strategy it was our mission, our trust in God, and the people who believed in what we were building. Looking back, that moment didn’t break us it clarified us. It strengthened our conviction and deepened our understanding of why Soul Sent exists.
And if we can survive health battles and disappearing social media accounts at the same time, we feel pretty prepared for whatever comes next.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Soul Sent is a faith-rooted fragrance and home essentials brand built around intention, atmosphere, and presence.
At its core, we create candles, room sprays, and fragrance products designed to do more than scent a space they’re meant to shift how a home feels. We specialize in warm, balanced fragrances and elevated, minimal design that integrates seamlessly into everyday living. Our products are created to soften a room, invite peace, and support moments of rest, reflection, and connection.
That combination of purpose, faith, consistency, and care is what truly sets Soul Sent apart. One thing we hear repeatedly from our community is that they’ve never experienced a bad product or scent from Soul Sent. That level of trust means everything to us, and it reflects the care, testing, and intention we pour into every fragrance we create.
Our brand is quietly rooted in faith not loud or performative, but intentionally woven into our values, storytelling, and mission. We don’t approach fragrance as a trend or a luxury accessory; we see it as a tool that shapes atmosphere and influences how people experience their homes.
We’re also known for our intentional growth. Soul Sent has evolved from candles into a broader fragrance house because our vision has always been to become part of a person’s everyday life. We often say we want our customers to be able to furnish their homes and routines entirely with Soul Sent products, surrounding themselves with peace, consistency, and purpose.
What we’re most proud of is the community that has grown alongside us. Soul Sent isn’t just supported by customers it’s supported by people who deeply connect with the mission and values behind the brand.
What we want readers to know most is this: Soul Sent is built with care. Every detail from ingredients to design to messaging is intentional. We’re not here to rush, overproduce, or follow trends. We’re here to create something lasting, meaningful, and rooted in faith.
Soul Sent isn’t just what you bring into your home
it’s how your home makes you feel.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The first thing we would say is: don’t go broke trying to scale too quickly.
Not every idea needs to be rushed out in a single year. We learned that growth without stability creates pressure, and pressure can pull you away from your purpose. Give yourself permission to build in phases.
Another lesson we learned is that clarity doesn’t always come before action it often comes through action. You don’t need to have everything figured out to start. You just need to be willing to take the next faithful step and allow the vision to unfold over time.
We also wish we had known that slow growth isn’t a weakness it’s often a gift. Building gradually allowed us to refine our vision, learn the business properly, and create something with depth instead of chasing momentum or comparison.
Finally, protect your “why.” Platforms change. Trends shift. Algorithms disappear overnight. If your foundation isn’t rooted in purpose, those changes can shake you. But when your work is anchored in something deeper, you’re able to stay steady even in uncertain seasons.
If we could tell our earlier selves anything, it would be this:
Build wisely, trust the process, and don’t rush what’s meant to last.
