Exploring Life & Business with Matt Kendrick of Redemption City Church

Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Kendrick.

Hi Matt, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve been in pastoral ministry for almost 20 years in churches from Burleson to Plano. Considering the explosive population boom in Fort Worth, we moved back to Southwest Fort Worth in 2020 to begin a new church called Redemption City Church. We are excited to reach new people and to welcome them into our church family.

I love serving as a pastor, and my wife and I love everything about Fort Worth.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a new church in 2020 came with plenty of challenges! A new church’s key objective is to gather people, but the pandemic was effective in keeping people apart. We moved back to Fort Worth during the first wave of COVID-19, had our first gathering during the 2nd wave, and had our church’s Grand Opening during the Delta wave in August 2021. Not quite the way we drew it up!

But through it all, we’ve grown and reached new people every week. By God’s grace, our team has persevered the COVID season.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Redemption City Church?
Our church specializes in loving people. We serve people in our community as much as we can. Just last week, we gave all the teachers and staff at Benbrook Elementary and Westpark Elementary coffee gift cards just to say “thanks” for all they do. We are very involved in helping kids at the Benbrook YMCA. And much more!

When first-time guests visit our church for a worship service, they often comment on how welcoming everyone is. We love that! We love those comments because we want everyone to feel at home at Redemption City.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
My favorite aspect of Fort Worth is the people. Our great city has all kinds of people from every sort of background. Our church reflects this diversity, with about 20 nationalities represented among attenders on a Sunday morning.

A close 2nd favorite is the food, of course. With a city this rich in Tex Mex and barbecue, why would anyone live somewhere besides Fort Worth?!
