Today we’d like to introduce you to Miracle Ehioghae.
Hi Miracle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My fascination with make-up started when I was in middle school. I used to buy kids’ eyeshadow and lip-gloss from time to time whenever my dad and I went grocery shopping, and I would already create different looks in my head. Sometimes I would come home, and my make-up would go missing because my dad had secretly thrown them away. My passion grew in high school when I finally did my first full glam for my prom. My sister-in-law did my make-up and my hair and really made me feel glammed up and for the very first time in my life, I felt confident, I felt beautiful, and I felt seen.
My passion stuck as I went to college and that was where I met my best friend. We bonded over our shared love of make-up, trying different looks and outfit combinations. Just us getting glammed up and feeling confident strutting to class was the highlight of some days. Then eventually I started doing it on other people because I wanted them to feel the way I felt every time I got dolled up. I wanted people to feel beautiful and confident in themselves, so I started taking it seriously. I started watching YouTube videos, teaching myself by trying on different looks on my friends from college. I never really went all in then because I never really felt confident enough in my work. Then eventually I took a break in 2018. I still watched videos, practiced on myself (and the occasional friend that needed a quick beat), educated myself on skin products, and tried to understand professional makeup itself.
Last year a friend of mine was graduating from nursing school, and she wanted me to do her make up for her photoshoot, at this point I had not done someone’s make up for such a serious occasion. She saw my work occasionally and I wasn’t ready to risk it yet. She told me “You’re ready” and she had the faith to believe in me. When I was done the first thing that she said, and I’ll never forget is “Wow you’re gifted Miracle”. That really resonated with me and at that moment, I knew I was ready, and I started taking myself and my craft seriously.
It really has been a long time coming. How I got to where I am today honestly is nothing short of the grace of God. I just made use of what I have without really putting too much pressure on myself like I used to, and I took control of my own creativity.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. There are times that I had doubts in myself and there are times where I felt like I wasn’t good enough but having a Fiancé like mine has always helped me get through these times and reminded me who I am.
When I started professionally last year, I had no idea how to market myself or draw the right customers. I tried all I could to get views on my Instagram page and hoped that would translate into more bookings. I started beating myself up again and doubting if I was as good as I thought I was. The thing is you have to believe more in yourself than others believe you or the doubt would still creep in. I had to learn to believe in myself more than anything and the doubt just fades away.
As you know, we’re big fans of Faces by Miracle. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My business, Faces by Miracle, specializes in bringing out the inner glow of my client. I am not just a makeup artist; I am a creative and a storyteller. I bring out the inner beauty of every person who sits on my chair through every brush and colors. I find your unique features and emphasize on it. It’s always an experience with me because each client is as unique as they come. I ensure my clients leave with all the confidence they know they already have inside.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
A surprising thing would be the fact that I never really decide on the look I do until it is done. Even when a client requests a look, I still find a way to add my touch to it and it comes out fabulous.
