Today we’d like to introduce you to Nate Coffin.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At Rivertop Roofing, we bring Minnesota-level craftsmanship to Texas. I grew up in the roofing and construction world in Minnesota — a state with some of the strictest contractor licensing and continuing education requirements in the country. When I moved to Texas, I realized anyone could call themselves a roofer, and homeowners were paying the price for it.
So we built Rivertop Roofing to raise the standard. We combine high-quality construction, deep insurance restoration expertise, and daily team training to make sure every job is done right the first time. And beyond roofing, we invest heavily back into the community through programs that support local families, schools, and kids in need.
In short: We fight for homeowners, we build roofs the right way, and we treat every home like it’s our own.
Sure — Rivertop Roofing really starts with my background. I grew up in Minnesota in the early 2000s doing just about every kind of construction work you can imagine… roofing, siding, snow plowing, interior work — if something on a house needed fixing, I was usually involved. Minnesota has one of the toughest contractor licensing programs in the country, so from a young age I was trained under strict standards, ongoing education, and a culture of ‘do it right or don’t do it at all.’
When I eventually moved to Texas to continue my roofing career, I was shocked to learn that roofing isn’t licensed here. Anyone with a hammer and a truck can call themselves a roofer. After seeing homeowners get burned by that system, I realized how valuable my Minnesota foundation really was — and I knew I could bring a much higher standard of roofing to Texas.
Before Rivertop, I actually owned a construction and roofing company back home, and later built another business that focused on helping roofing contractors navigate insurance claims and storm restoration. That gave me a deep understanding of the insurance side of the industry — what’s fair, what’s not, and how to help homeowners avoid paying out-of-pocket for things their insurance should cover.
Eventually, I partnered with a business growth expert who specializes in building world-class, customer-obsessed companies powered by technology and genuine care for people. Together we launched Rivertop Roofing in 2023, and since then we’ve helped thousands of homeowners save millions of dollars on repairs and replacements that would’ve otherwise been their responsibility.
At Rivertop, our motto is ‘We treat your home like our own.’ And we mean that literally. Your home is the second most valuable thing you own behind your family, and we take that responsibility seriously. For us, ‘doing a good job’ is just the starting point — table stakes. We bring Minnesota-level craftsmanship to every project, we train our team daily, and we fight relentlessly for homeowners throughout the insurance process.
But beyond roofing, we also believe deeply in investing back into the community. We have four major give-back programs we run every year:
Rivertop Rewards, where we donate $500 every quarter to a homeowner who trusted us with an inspection — no strings attached.
Rivertop Wins, where we partner with school teams and clubs and donate $500 for every roof we replace within their community.
Rivertop Cares, launching in 2026, where we install a free roof for a deserving homeowner facing hardship.
Rivertop Toy Drop, our holiday toy drive, where we donate $100 worth of toys for every roof we build in December.
We don’t just work here — we live here. We’re raising families here. And everything we do is built around creating value for homeowners, supporting our employees, and making our community better.
Today, our office in Plano runs daily training on best practices, quality control, insurance education, and leadership development. Our team works incredibly hard, and there’s nothing better than seeing that look of relief and satisfaction on a homeowner’s face when their project is done right the first time.
That’s Rivertop Roofing. High standards, real craftsmanship, relentless advocacy, and a mission to serve our community every single day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The hardest struggle that we’ve had to endure in Texas roofing for the last 10 years has been the changing strategies of the various insurance companies. They pay big bucks on television to tell you that they’ve got your back, and you’ve got nothing to worry about, but the majority of the time in practice that doesn’t seem to be the case. They are constantly inventing new ways to circumvent policyholder obligations and put up roadblocks to retain as much pocket-lining-profits as possible. We’ve learned a lot over the years about the steady and effective way to navigate these strategies and with our insurance restoration contractor support experience over the last few years we’re well positioned to help our customers get the best bang for their buck when they hire us over someone just starting out or that is looking for a quick profit.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rivertop Roofing?
Rivertop Roofing was founded on a simple belief: homeowners deserve craftsmanship they can trust and service that genuinely puts their needs first. Co-founded by roofing expert Nate Coffin, Rivertop brings the high standards of one of the nation’s toughest licensing environments to the Texas market, where roofing is largely unregulated. With decades of hands-on experience, deep knowledge of building codes, and specialized expertise in the insurance restoration process, our team is committed to doing every job right the first time. We treat every home like it’s our own — fighting for homeowners, building with precision, and delivering a level of care that sets us apart. Beyond roofing, we invest back into the communities we serve through programs like Rivertop Rewards, Rivertop Wins, Rivertop Cares, and the Rivertop Toy Drop. At Rivertop Roofing, we don’t just replace roofs — we protect families, strengthen neighborhoods, and work every day to raise the standard of roofing in Texas.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I am a lifelong learner, fascinated by changing technology, psychology, and sports. My kids are all in sports of one kind or another, dance, baseball, football, etc, so I also spend a lot of time on the field or the stage cheering them on. I’m currently working on an internal AI tool that will help us support our customers in a faster and more complete way by automating our reporting for internal process activities to keep us on track. Many of the books and podcasts I’ve been listening to over the last year or so have been about AI philosophy, strategies, and technology. We believe that we must embrace technology and that’s a major focus of mine right now.
