Today we’d like to introduce you to Nathan Coughlin.
Hi Nathan, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2016, my wife and I took a leap and opened our first dental office. After working in corporate dentistry, we knew we wanted to build something more personal—beautiful spaces where patients feel comfortable and cared for. We believed then, and still believe now, that high-quality dental and orthodontic care should be affordable and accessible to everyone. That belief continues to guide everything we do.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As every entrepreneur knows, business is a roller coaster. There were seasons when we truly didn’t know if we would survive. While things may have appeared stable from the outside, internally we were navigating financial pressure, legal hurdles, and ongoing challenges with staff and providers. During those moments, we questioned whether we were meant to be business owners at all. Looking back now, those hardest times became the very experiences that built our strength, clarity, and resilience.
As you know, we’re big fans of Thrive Dental and Orthodontics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
What sets us apart is simple: we believe great dentistry shouldn’t be a luxury. We provide high-quality dental and orthodontic care in beautiful, thoughtfully designed spaces—without the premium price tag. Our mission has always been to maximize our patients’ insurance benefits and make advanced, technology-driven care affordable for individuals and families who deserve the very best.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For anyone just starting out, seek mentors who have truly been there and done that. We were fortunate to have a few individuals who guided us—and who we still learn from today. One lesson we learned the hard way was the importance of avoiding advice from people who sounded convincing but lacked real experience in our specific industry. The right mentors are those who have done exactly what you’re trying to do and understand the challenges firsthand.
