Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicholas Nguyen.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Honestly, I never even thought I’d be a photographer. I went to college studying to go into healthcare, but after I graduated, covid hit. During the lockdown, I picked up a camera and started making vlogs for fun as a way to have something to look back at. Then because I had a camera, I just started taking photos and realized how much I enjoyed the whole process of shooting and editing. After a few months, I realized that photography could be more than just something I did for fun, and I started watching as many YouTube videos and learning as much as possible. I also started reaching out to other photographers to try to learn from them, and luckily, I found a mentor. That was all about a year ago, around May 2021, and ever since then, I just keep looking for ways to keep shooting and improve.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth, but at the same time, I don’t think it was as hard as other people’s journeys. In photography, I found it pretty straightforward to improve and grasp how to shoot and light things the way I want; unfortunately, having nice photos isn’t the only thing that makes a photographer successful. I’ve mainly struggled with the business side of things, and that’s something that has been a little more difficult to learn,
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Nvnguyenphoto?
I am a freelance photographer, and I can shoot anything from weddings to food to branding photos. I started shooting weddings, but I mainly shoot portraits, whether it’s a creative concept, a senior graduation photo, or someone’s dating profile. I will do the absolute most to get the shot because, in the end, what makes me happy is getting the best picture possible. Whatever shoot someone wants to do, I’m down to shoot it. Weddings, food, product, birthday parties. As long as I’m holding a camera, I’ll be happy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I was lucky enough to find something I’m passionate about and put everything into it. I know most people don’t find that, but I happen to pick up a camera. I managed to stray away from a career that wouldn’t have enjoyed nearly as much.
