Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Musko.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have studied the behavior and the psychology of dogs all my life. I was always fascinated by the species, probably before I could even learn to talk. One of my first words as a baby was “doggy”. Over the years I self-taught from around the world- working with many different training cases. I started my own business in Ohio several years ago and quickly became one of the largest companies in the state of Ohio. I began to see I had a calling to break down this communication bearer between dog and human. Then I learned the most important next step is to teach dog owners the proper way to train a dog so they can build a better relationship where we can all co-exist. There is not one way to train a dog as all dogs have different backgrounds and personalities. Dog training can become a complex job. A couple years ago, I made the decision to move to Dallas, as I knew I would be able to make a larger impact within the community to help dog owners and organizations within the pet and working dog field. There has been a disconnect for many years with dog training. It’s not about overpowering a dog; it’s about becoming a team with your dog. And that’s my mission.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Picking up your entire life, leaving family behind, and moving to a new city is never a smooth road. To run a start-up business almost across the country is very difficult to do but rewarding.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Collar Club Academy. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Our facility is located in Denton, Texas. We serve all of Dallas/Fort Worth and its surrounding cities. We specialize in custom on and off leash obedience programs, behavior modification, personal protection dogs, and also properly educating our clientele.
When seeking a dog trainer, don’t let distance stand in your way. You want your dog to have the proper training and we can customize our programs based on your personal schedule. This may include while your dog is boarded with us, you may not have the time to travel to the facility, so we can come to you instead.
What sets us apart from others is we understand no dog is the same. It’s important to understand the dog’s behavior at all times during the training process. We also prioritize the owner’s relationship with the dog through education.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I believe in calculated risks. Prior to taking a risk you need to believe in your abilities in the purest form. Challenge yourself with questions in the most honest way you can be with yourself.
Learn as much as you possibly can and always follow what’s true. Never chase a dream for the wrong reasons. If you have a true calling listen to that and everything else will fall into place.
