Hi Nora, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, let’s start here, what I am going to tell you is a short and hard version of my story, but I will do it briefly. Answer that question, how did I start and how did I get to where I am today? Well, it is a sum of events, people, situations, I will try to summarize them, but there is something important that I want you to know, my future is under construction and I do it day by day, from the hand of God. Anyone who is an immigrant knows that many things are left behind when leaving the country of origin; degrees, career paths, relationships, and most importantly family and friends. I am an immigrant of Venezuelan origin, who fled communism. I grew up in a humble place in my country, my working mother, with a dreamy streak of an entrepreneur, my father, strong, disciplined, responsible, a heavy vehicle driver, one of those men who even at 70 are like buffalo. Thanks to their efforts, I had a no-frills, but happy childhood, studying Marketing and taking various training courses, including the English language. I had the opportunity to train in democratic Venezuela. I had the support of my mother and my father; they were very influential in all aspects of my life. I got a job opportunity in a prestigious newspaper in my country EL NACIONAL, I got up early every day, I arrived at my work 1 hour before the usual entry time, I always carried sports shoes in a bag with me, so as not to get tired of visiting so much customers. I had the opportunity to meet wonderful people who, without them knowing it, had become a kind of work coach, they protected me, they trusted me, they are very important in my life. Then, I worked as a Sales Manager, in very important magazines such as OCEAN DRIVE VENEZUELA and CONDENAST MIAMI, I was Vice-president of AMERICAS MEDIA GROUP PANAMA, I participated in the advertising campaign for the launch of the Trump Hotel in Panama. Also, at that time, I dedicated myself altruistically to helping a Foundation that cared for street children in Venezuela. I trained with John Maxwell, organized an event for the singer and adorer Marcos Witt, cataloged in his book as the 5th best concert in the world. At that time, little by little, a process was rising that destroyed the democratic institutions of my country of origin and established Communism. They called me at home leaving threatening messages, we had difficult situations to handle and we decided to leave, it was quite a pilgrimage. But this is nothing compared to the stories of immigrants, of my people who went out in diaspora around the world, you can imagine; 7 million Venezuelans! – There is still a lot to do. This expression, of an immigrant man, who said many incredible things in his life, we can only understand when leaving our comfort zone, believe me, it is beyond our understanding, he said: “The world is a dangerous place to live; not for evil people, but for people who do nothing about it”, he left Germany at a difficult time in human history, passing through Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, until he found a safe haven in the United States, that man is Albert Einstein. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it wasn’t easy at all, but God can turn bad into good. We are thankful with God for having protected and guarded us in all that time. We bless the United States of America, who gave us protection, the American people for understanding us, sharing their customs with us, and giving us inclusive space to develop as human beings. Now, I´m building the Nora Piñero Realty Group, hand in hand with the best, Keller Williams Urban Dallas. Also together with my husband, we carry out social work in our community. For 2 years, we have planted the Connection without Limits Church https://conexionsinlimites.org/, in a program of the Reformed Church in America https://www.rca.org/, with which we help other refugees, of different nationalities, that life has brought them to Dallas, Texas. We help them connect with God and follow the teachings of Jesus. We teach them that the human being is imperfect, especially us, who should not follow any man, but God and Jesus Christ. We impart a sound doctrine, for this, we were trained in the Pastoral Counseling Certification program at Western Theological Seminary.
