Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Vanarsdel.
Phillip, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was talking to a lot of my elderly clients from my other company Polka Dot Design. One of the real issues they were having was not being able to communicate with their landscaping crews. There was an issue with getting extra work done and getting it done properly. Throughout all of my market research, I realized how big of an issue this really was. I knew I was a great communicator and I could do this work, so I decided to start another business. Handsome Lawn Service and Landscaping was born. We specialized in being able to communicate properly. Local boys doing local work, locally. It makes sense, right? Ironically, through word of mouth, our business grew quickly and organically. Today we run multiple crews and specialize in taking care of the client handsomely.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
One of the hardest things has always been finding people that actually want to work. For the longest time, the turnover was at least weekly. There are a lot of individuals that act like they want a job, but really just want money. When you have a business to run, you’ve got remain dependable. You’ve got to be able to depend on your workers. The struggle has always been personnel.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We specialize in cleaning up properties before they go on the market to sell. We do a lot of curb appeal boosts and work with the photographers and clients to help make the best first impression. In turn, this helps the client get even better offers on their biggest investment.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
One of my biggest cheerleaders is my partner, Kristen Alexander. She has always been there for me, pushing me to be the best version of myself. Her energy treatments really help push me to the next level of myself. I would not be where I am today without her.
