Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosetta Bookman.
Hi Rosetta, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Absolutely! I was born and raised in Fort Worth, TX where I currently reside with my loving husband, two beautiful kids, and Frenchie fur babies. As early as I can remember, I have always had a “make it happen” mentality. After losing my stepfather to lung cancer at age 14, I felt compelled to help my mother by absorbing some of the financial responsibilities to give my mom a hand. I began working at the age of fifteen. While working part time I was able to juggle academics and extracurricular activities and successfully executed a plan to graduate early. I graduated from O.D. Wyatt High School with a 3.9 GPA in the year 2000. I was accepted at Texas Wesleyan University on a partial academic scholarship. After completing 1 year of Undergrad, I decided to pivot and focus on climbing the corporate ladder.
I began a career in the Mortgage Industry in 2001 and after years of navigating the corporate world, I landed at the AVP level as Technology Support Project Consultant. While juggling a rewarding career, marriage, and motherhood I decided to return to Undergrad and finish what I started. In the year 2020, I received a Bachelor of Science in Business with a Project Management certification. In 2021, I experienced a layoff after working 15-years with my latest employer. As a result, I decided to go into business for myself. This is when ‘A RoseGold Notary’ was born!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! I have faced many challenges and obstacles over the years, but we all do! One of my favorite affirmations of resilience is “What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger”. -Friedrich Nietzsche
As I previously mentioned, I experienced a layoff in 2021. At that time, I had to make a tough decision. There I was a wife, mother, and (what I thought to be) a valuable employee to the company faced with a decision to look for another position within or proceed with the layoff. I decided on the latter. This meant walking away from 15 years of dedication to one company, benefits for my family, and a good salary. It was not an easy decision.
I originally obtained my Notary Public Commission in 2010, but I was not utilizing it much over the years. I happened to stumble across a Zoom presentation by Elexsis Rambo of Your Fav Notary, LLC where she laid out the roadmap to becoming a Loan Signing Agent. I thought this would be a great fit for me considering my background in Mortgage and prior experience as a Notary Public. It also couldn’t have come at a better time considering the pending layoff! I spent 6-8 months focused on researching and studying while building A RoseGold Notary as a brand. This meant late nights and early mornings, investing money into purchasing equipment and courses.
Being self-employed is an ongoing challenge within itself, but it is so rewarding. The Mortgage and Real Estate Industry is ever-changing, and it is important for me to be able to excel during the peaks and survive the valleys of the industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
As I mentioned before I am the owner and operator of ‘A RoseGold Notary’. This means that I manage all aspects of the business.
