Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandra Barrientos and Araceli Sierra.
Hi Sandra and Araceli, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We started our journey in the waxing world in 2015 when we were both working at a local waxing studio. There, we mastered full body waxing, specializing in Brazilian/intimate waxing for ladies. While we loved our job and clients, there was a constant pressure by management that focused on sales versus customer care and service. With not meeting sales quota came the constant threat of being let go, leading to ultimately deciding to move on from that salon. We each went our own way but kept in touch. In 2018 Araceli opened her own suite while I, Sandra, was working in a different salon. After much conversation and bouncing of ideas back and forth we decided to take the plunge and partner together. That was the best decision we ever made! We were able to quickly upgrade our small suites and are now in the process of opening our first official storefront location! We are super excited to bring our vision to life and share the outcome of all our hard work. It has definitely not been an easy journey, but we are so blessed to be doing what we love and to have the opportunity to not only grow our business but to help women feel comfortable and better about themselves through our service and level of care.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been an easy road for sure, but it has definitely been a road worth traveling! We have had to sacrifice so much to get to where we now are. We have sacrificed personal time with family and friends, money, and more. One of the hardest things to do is to stay consistent and motivated to keep going, especially when things get hard. Having each other to lean on is huge because we support and lift each other to keep going.
For me personally (Araceli), as an entrepreneur and a mom of two, things can get really challenging. At the same time, being your own boss comes with great benefits. For example, I can create flexibility in my schedule that allows me to always be there for my children when they need me. It’s still a lot to juggle, and I’m still learning as we go, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

At The Skin & Body Co., we specialize in full body waxing and intimate kitty care for ladies. Our goal is to make women feel comfortable in a very vulnerable situation, and to help with insecurities that A LOT of women have! We aim to focus not only on providing waxing services, but also proper and customized after-care to keep your kitty looking her best! We find a lot of women are very self-critical and even insecure about their lady parts and we feel it’s often due to lack of proper skincare knowledge. We believe women are unique and beautiful no matter the size, shape, or color. We want to make sure that you leave our studio feeling your best! We are home to one of our premier and most requested services called The Vajacial Wax Combo. This service is pretty much a facial for your intimate area combined with a full Brazilian wax. It’s such a fun and beneficial service, all of our clients love it!

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Patience! Be patient and let things flow! We believe that everything happens for a reason, when things are supposed to happen, and for our benefit. In attempting to open a standalone salon during a pandemic when there is so much uncertainty and everything is impacted, you could say we have definitely been tested and probably mastered patience by now. However, we are trusting our process and being optimistic that everything will go well for us and we will soon be welcoming and servicing our clients in our very own salon.
