Exploring Life & Business with Sarah Triplett of Shaadi Outfitters

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Triplett.

Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
We decided to start this adventure with our friends and families in mind and we will make every effort to treat you like a close friend or family member.

Buddy and Sarah met in 2016 through a mutual friend. They soon started dating and Buddy was very excited and eager to learn about Indian culture and Sarah’s heritage. After being invited to an Indian wedding and not knowing what they would wear, the two got the idea to create a business that offers beautiful, high quality bespoke South Asian outfits for others to rent for their events. We are so excited that what started as a exciting idea out of necessity, has grown into a valuable service to help introduce everyone to the beauty of South Asian culture.

Since founding in 2019, we have navigated the industry through the pandemic, our marriage, and the birth of our daughter, but the constant has been our excitement to help our customers look and feel their best! We started our business out of our home in Austin, and have recently moved to the DFW metroplex, excited to help customers all over Texas, but really tap into the wedding & event community here.

We offer access to rent high quality clothing at an affordable price so everyone has the chance to look their best and feel included at a South Asian wedding or event.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has definitely not been a smooth road, but that’s part of the journey and led us to where we are today!

We incorporated in December of 2019, and the pandemic in 2020 shut down the ability for people to have big, beautiful South Asian celebrations. That was difficult for us, because we were excited to see the potential, and we immediately were on pause. But, it gave us the time to thoughtfully curate our outfits for our customers.

As we have grown and expanded our inventory, we have faced typical challenges that apparel and fashion companies face, which is how to balance budget and quality of clothing. As a rental company, we are heavily focused on sustainability, so we want to ensure that we are providing our customers with the highest quality of clothing at all times. We have navigated this well, in finding great sourcing contacts and buyers in India.

We are excited to continue finding the best outfits, and even designing our own, that meet the needs of our customers!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Shaadi (pronounced sha-dee) means wedding in Hindi, We are a small family business that specializes in high quality South Asian clothing rentals so people can feel comfortable and confident at their next South Asian celebration!

We are so proud to introduce affordable high quality clothing that people may not have the opportunity or need to buy. This allows everyone to feel included in celebrations! The South Asian culture prides itself of being warm and inviting, not worrying about cultural appropriation. Families want everyone at the events to dress up, eat the food, dance, and have a good time, and we want to help facilitate that.

Our favorite thing about the brand we are creating is the focus on sustainability. Renting clothing for events that will be likely posted on social media is such a great thing for people’s wallets, and planet Earth. Sustainable fashion is a market that is growing and we are so proud to be a part of it.

We know that clothing and accessories from other parts of the world are beautiful to look at, but we encourage you to come on by to touch, feel, and try on the clothes! We promise you will find something that will make you feel confident and excited for the event you get to attend!

What matters most to you? Why?
To us, the most important thing that matters in inclusion. Having seen our friends and past customers’ excitement in our business has really made us want to continue to grow our business and reach people all over the state! We want everyone to feel included and be a part in learning about South Asian cultures and community. The clothes, food, and dances are the threads that tie the community together during South Asian celebrations, and we are so excited to be a part of them!

On top of all of that, we are so genuinely proud to focus on sustainability with our rental model. Our planet has given us so much, and continues to do so, so we want to be kind to it.
