Exploring Life & Business with Sonnia Daniels of Bulls Eye Taxes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sonnia Daniels.

Hi Sonnia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to school to learn how to help my community with financial education. Once I graduated college in 2016, I realized 2 things: school had prepared me to help companies, not people, and that ‘licenses and certifications’ could take the place of ‘experience’ on a resume. I started Bulls Eye Taxes in 2017, a few months after college, as a way to pad my resume. I was tired of hearing that I did not have enough experience for the accounting field, and I was already working 2 jobs. I saw no other way to make strides in my career but to create my own experience. My goal was to gain experience and eventually get my dream job of Wealth Management Officer or Financial Analyst, or anything of the sort. However, I never seemed to have the experience that could land me the jobs I was applying for. My income was stagnant for years. Bulls Eye Taxes has always been operated virtually because I was working full-time in corporate for the first 2 years of my business. I worked on obtaining my investment licenses and insurance licenses while I worked and during that time, I built my book of business. It was very difficult because I felt like there were never enough hours in the day and I didn’t have capital to leave my job and focus on growing my business. Eventually, I took a leap of faith and quit my job because the salary growth was not keeping up with my cost of living and I knew I could do better for myself with all the hours in the day. I quit my job in July 2019 and went full-time financial consultant and bet on myself 100%. In 2020, when Covid hit, my business was already prepared for virtual work. I grew my business by 300% from $4500 income to $21,000 income. I moved from Atlanta to Dallas at the end of 2020 and in 2021 my income grew another 75%. Now as 2022 approaches, I am a fully virtual full-service Personal Finance Consultant. My purpose is to change the way that my community interacts with money and to close the wealth gap. My goal is to open a school where students focus on financial literacy and other real-life skills that will allow them to be productive members of the American economic system.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been smooth. My struggles have been staying consistent with marketing, finding capital in order to grow, and staying up to date with the changing tax law. Entrepreneurship has been difficult because I have always been groomed to have a schedule made for me that I abide to. Working for myself forces me to take an active role in the next steps of my life.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bulls Eye Taxes?
My business is a full-year tax and consulting service. I specialize in taxes, investing, and life insurance. I am unique from others in the way that I am easily accessible 24/7 and that I am able to help execute the suggestions I make about how to invest and to obtain tax savings. I am most proud of the fact that I have been able to create jobs for my community by hiring and training tax preparers. My brand is authentic and comforting which is not typical of most financial consultants. I try to make sure that potential clients can imagine themselves working with me no matter what income level they are.

What makes you happy?
It makes me happy when I hear a client sigh with relief after working with me. It makes me most happy to hear this because I want to serve as a resource to anyone who comes in contact with me. Money is such a central issue in most households that to hear a sigh of relief shows me that I have brought some peace of mind to this household and they are better off from meeting me.
