Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Washington.
Tamara, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I think that I am a serial entrepreneur. I grew up in Dallas, TX all of my life, lived in multiple areas such as Oak Cliff, South Dallas, Pleasant Grove, East Dallas. Humble beginnings but have been blessed to further myself by obtaining a doctorate in Nursing. I am a board-certified Nurse Practitioner and I own a clinic called Elite NP Clinic. It has been open for three years and growing but I have always had a passion for fashion and hair. One of the things that I’ve always wanted to do was to open a hair store, whether it was a beauty supply storefront or online. I chose an online store first for less overhead. I chose hair extensions and wigs because I love trying the different textures and origins of hair.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it has not been a smooth road, but they mainly are due to financing. As you might be aware, it is very hard for Black entrepreneurs to obtain funding, no matter how good your credit is or how good your business idea is, this is still a challenge. This means that I am self-funding my business to test samples, find great vendors, maintain my website, etc. Also, let’s not forget about MARKETING which is also very costly.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?

I am most proud of the fact that we test out our products prior to offering them, we guarantee every single strand that the customer buys and that we are delivering great products to our customers.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck, I believe in God and he has blessed all my endeavours, all of my life. I just have to keep trusting in him and doing his will.
