Exploring Life & Business with Tara Porter of Tara Porter Insures

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Porter.

Tara Porter

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a person who has spent my entire adult life self-employed, I’ve experienced a few things professionally. I’ll start just prior to covid. I was at a point where, after over 30 years in the beauty industry, I was looking for a change. I moved in the direction of motivational speaking, which lead me to starting a mentorship program. I secured my first contract with a high school in Fort Worth during spring break of 2019. Such an exciting time. As the end of the school year approached, I had begun seeking out new contracts for the upcoming school year. The idea of getting into the insurance industry was brought to me by a cousin around that time, and I didn’t immediately feel connected to the idea. Because of an injury, I was sitting still, and I decided to look into it. I took a job that offered paid training to get an inside look at the business. During this time the memory of my mother deceasing without a life insurance policy of her own and the experience that my siblings and I had because of the circumstances started to play over and over in my heart. At that point, I was all in! The desire to help others avoid what we had experienced became the goal. Just as it started to get good covid hit. My goal post-training was to go independent, so that’s just what I did, and the timing couldn’t have been more perfect since we were locked in; what else was there to do? So, here I am 3 years in, and I wouldn’t change a thing. The business is flourishing, and I have recently begun to grow a team! LIFE INSURANCE, GET SOME!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is there a such thing as a smooth road??? LOL. Actually, the road has been smooth! There are always lessons and experiences that sharpen our skills and teach us along the way. My experience has been no different. I fully believe that it’s our perspective that makes the difference. I don’t measure in wins and loses; I measure successes and lessons. I am experiencing both! If I had to offer any advice, it would be to be patient, stay open, ask for help and advice when you get start something new, and stay positive.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tara Porter Insures?
I am insurance broker holding licensure in General Lines Life, Accident, Health, and HMO as well as Property and Casualty. That just means that I can sell any insurance that I’d like to. I have chosen to specialize in Life Insurance. What sets me apart is that I operate as a broker rather than an agent. The difference is that an agent works for one specific company, and a broker is able to foster relationships with as many insurance companies as they choose. That means a broker is able to do comparative shopping for each client to customize their coverage based each client’s individual needs. I consider that my superpower! I’d want people to know that my company operates from the educational perspective rather than the sales perspective. We are here to educate people and let them decide what they need and want for themselves and their families. We cover several different states and work with several different insurance carriers in order to spread the love, support, and education!

What makes you happy?
I am my happiest when I have done all that I can do to help people and when I know that all of mine and my family’s needs are being met!
