Exploring Life & Business with Terrill Binion of Diamond Lyfe Kutz Professional Barber Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrill Binion.

Hi Terrill, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started for me back in 2005, shortly after I was recovering from an ACL knee injury from playing basketball abroad and my father was just recently diagnosed with cancer. During recovery, I was contemplating on my next move, my father gave me the idea to pursue cutting hair. I started cutting my own hair when I was high school at the age of 14.

This later turned into friends and classmates asking me for a haircut. I can remember my first pair of clippers like it was yesterday. I had a pair of black and white Wahl clippers with a number 1 plastic guard.

Those clippers were my all-purpose tools, they cut the fade and did the lining. I have worked in many barbershops in Chicago before landing here in Texas. Along my journey, I have met some great barbers who were willing to pour into me secrets of the craft to make more efficient as a barber and businessman. I relocated to Texas 5 years ago from Chicago, I originally started my career in Texas as an In Home Investigator for the state of Texas. After working on the job for 9 months I found myself still searching for my happy place.

I resigned from my job and decided to return back to being a barber. Being a barber gives me the ability to raise a clients’ self-esteem through a precise, well-blended haircut service. I am able to bring my style and flare from Chicago to provide services to some of the best clients in the metroplex. They keep me engaged with different conversations from all perspectives of life and I keep them feeling like a true celebrity once they leave my chair.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This road traveled has not been easy. My biggest challenge is staying focused to consistently create a brand that is appealing to everyone. Through hard work, dedication, and marketing I’m able to say business is steady since the pandemic. I encourage anyone to follow their passion, if you do what you’re passionate about it’s’ never considered to be work.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Diamond Lyfe Kutz Professional Grooming is a brand that is built of the mantra of my fraternity which is “Achievement”. I specialize in precise, well-blended haircuts that can include mini facial services in addition to hot towel shaves. My goal is not to sell haircuts but provide a total client experience.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I keep a small circle of business accountability personnel to assist with setting and conquering goals.
