Exploring Life & Business with Tiffany Jones-Lewis of TJL Collection

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Jones-Lewis.

Tiffany Jones-Lewis

Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been 6’1″ since the age of 12. It has always been a struggle for me to find clothing that fit me properly. I have always had a love for fashion, so the thought of limited options is frustrating to this day. I asked my mom for a sewing machine in high school and taught myself to sew. I learned very early how to create the things I did not have access to.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Finding my way into the fashion world has been far from easy. After I completed my time in the US Navy, I decided to go to fashion school. Although I had the formal education, I was still unsure on how to gain capital or where to even begin manufacturing. It took me 2 years to find a manufacturer and the funding to even start this dream. For years, my husband and I were the everything for the business. We did marketing, accounting, sales, photography, and more. It was so hard growing with little start-up funding.

We’ve been impressed with TJL Collection, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TJL Collection is a contemporary women’s fashion brand exclusively for tall women. We focused on extended-length clothing for women 5’9″ and taller. Major store inseams are 28 to 31 inches. TJL Collection starts at a 35-inch inseam and goes up to 40 inches. Our items are for the women who are overlooked and underserved in the fashion industry.

Being a fashion designer first, I am most proud that I get to create every day because I have always loved designing. I have been able to serve women internationally, professional sports and news analyst.

Our fashion is for women above average who love fashion.

How do you think about luck?
Good Luck has played a big role in my business. I have met the right people and been in the right place at the right time. I’m more grateful that I have gone with my gut on things. I believe that if you do right by people, things will come back to you in a good way as well.
