Today we’d like to introduce you to Trenesha Simpkins.
Hi Trenesha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I never intended to be who I am today. I never dreamed I’d be who I am today. Full-time entrepreneur, financially stable, coach, mentor, leader. When I started my real estate journey in 2013, I never knew it would lead to success and me finding my true passion. I love it here! You ever have that feeling inside where you know you are meant to do great things, but never could really figure out how to get there? That’s where I was before I started my real estate career. When I interviewed for the job that launched my real estate career, I thought it was a gimmick, a con. I said “There’s no way people are making that kind of money here. What’s the catch?” But after interviewing with several people, and securing the job, I said “what’s there to lose?”. From the moment I took that job, everything for me changed. I found something I was passionate about, something that I enjoyed doing, and a career that changed my life. It was everything I needed when I needed it.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road the entire time. I was doing very well and making a really great living and had been promoted to management. I was being groomed for a high-level management position, then some key players were removed or left the organization and the people who believed in me, were no longer there. I was introduced to people who did not know me and who did not have the same enthusiasm about this black female. They didn’t believe in me. The position that I was put in place to get, was passed on to some else, someone that was under me, a decoy player. I didn’t even get the opportunity to interview for the position before I realized my subordinate had become my boss. I had to train him and teach him to do the job I was already doing. Things just weren’t the same for me anymore. My family and I decided to leave Oklahoma and move to Dallas, which came with its own set of challenges and obstacles. We lived there about a year and a half and came back broke, battered, and bruised in more ways than one. Rebuilding was our next goal. When we returned, it’s like everything fell back into place easily, as if GOD was saying this where I have placed you, and this is where you are meant to be for now.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the broker and owner of iLove Realty. I am so incredibly proud of my company and my team. We started off as a real estate team with my previous firm, and I am so blessed that they have believed in me and all of my agents moved with me when I transitioned from a team lead to a broker/owner. We specialize in multiple areas of real estate such as; commercial purchase, commercial and residential leases, investors, listing services for sellers, services for buyers, luxury, first-time homebuyers, veterans, relocations, etc. Working with iLove Realty is an EXPERIENCE. We have processes in place for our buyers so they feel well taken care of regardless of the price of the property they are selling or buying. Our goals are all client-focused and we keep happy clients for years after a transaction closes.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Finding a good mentor can be really challenging. The mentors that I have, have the same values and belief system as me. I never want to be the smartest person in the room and want to learn as much as I can from people who have experienced different things by trial and error. My mentor should be helping with things that will save me time and money through proper resources. I have two mentors, once active mentor that stretches me to think beyond what I think is possible for myself, and another mentor that has been with me since the beginning and she updates me on her business and I update her on mine.
