Today we’d like to introduce you to Valentin Torres.
Hi Valentin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started cutting hair in church, lining up my buddies and then later cutting on my porch. While I served in the Army I cut hair regularly in and out of training.
I was transitioning out of the military working as a mailman, when one day I recieved a letter in the mail from the VA. The letter allowed me to use my education benefits and go to school fulltime. I started getting my basics out of the way on my way to a bachelors degree in business, when I reached out to my old military peers and asked for advice, they all told me to be a barber.
I attended Texas Barber College for my barber license and Bladecraft Barber Academy for my Instructor License both located in Dallas, TX. I opened my first shop in Seagoville, Tx in 2021, moved to Crandall, TX in 2022 and have been here growing our business. We opened my wife’s salon suite business “SELF LOVE SUITES” in 2022 and our new beauty supply “CRANDALL BEAUTY SUPPLY “ in 2024.
We have had the opportunity and honor or helping other small businesses start up in my wife’s salon suite business. We are proud to say that some of them have moved on to own their own small businesses. I’m thankful for my parents, my lovely wife’s support, and everyone who helped us get to where we are today.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are always obstacles that come with doing something difficult. I find it best to never take anything personal and become good at solving problems. Business is all about solving problems.
Learning to be a good boss is still my goal. I’m always learning and people expect you to know everything right away . I’m learning just like u are. We’re all learning together

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I take risks everyday in business. I took a risk opening my business during the pandemic in 2021. I took a risk moving my business in 2022. I took a risk opening “Crandall Beauty Supply” in the same building in 2024. I’m taking risks everytime someone walks in my barbershop. Thank GOD and trust in GOD, trust that GOD will see u through everything.
