Exploring Life & Business with Yazmin Lopez of Missie Apparel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yazmin Lopez.

Hi Yazmin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Missie Apparel an online women’s clothing boutique that is all-inclusive! I have always been very passionate about fashion and putting together clothing that I not only felt comfortable in but that also made me feel my most confident. Growing up I loved looking through my mom’s closet and playing dress-up. I loved finding affordable items at thrift stores and making them my own. I thoroughly enjoyed being asked by my friends to help them go shopping for new outfits (I will be your personal stylist any day lol) it’s so fun to me! Several months ago, I began to think how much I desired something of my own, something I could create and have full creative control of. I decided that a clothing boutique is the path I wanted to embark on. During the initial process of finding wholesale vendors and markets, I noticed a significant change in styles available for plus size. I decided to make my boutique all-inclusive and really take my time finding my favorite styles ranging from small-3X. I wanted everyone to feel like there was an option for them that wasn’t just “fine’ but that they could feel sexy and confident in no matter their shape or size- we all deserve to feel our very best! I hope to continue learning and growing and providing fits for every occasion for as many women as possible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I went into this process trying to do as much research as possible on the steps but it came with so many things, I had to figure out on my own including where to find vendors, how to make an LLC, getting a sales permit, taxes, marketing, profit margins just to name a few. I stayed up many nights building my props DIY style and creating packaging etc. This was all extremely new for me and I definitely had to go through a learning curve. All while being a new grad and starting a full-time position as a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant. I had 2 new life changes that I am both very passionate about and managing my time between both has been a work in progress for sure!

We’ve been impressed with Missie Apparel, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My work consists of owning my women’s clothing boutique providing styles that range from small to 3x. I choose every piece in the collections with the classy women in mind who is not afraid to embrace their sexy feminine side. There is a new spring collection with all the perfect spring colors and styles including dresses, tops, and blazers. You can catch us at pop-ups for the opportunity to shop in person or online 24/7 where every package is personally packaged with a personal note to every customer. Aside from that I also work full time as a Pediatric COTA providing therapy and helping children learn everyday skills and become more independent.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Put yourself out there! Growing up I have always been quite shy it’s something I work on to this day! Attending pop-ups, you hear it all the time about the importance of networking. I have put my fears of judgment aside and have put myself out there and met so many amazing creators and small businesses that not only become friends but mentors in their own right. Helping each other is key and it is truly so nice and helpful being able to give and receive advice and encouragement.
