Gerardo Mulas’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We recently had the chance to connect with Gerardo Mulas and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Gerardo, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
Self-confidence in their inherent capacity to achieve their goals, to pursue a life that will help them feel fulfilled, indomitable health and fitness, connection with themselves and others, a sense of community they can relate to.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Gerardo Mulas, and I have found my calling of serving other human beings through Jiu-Jitsu and fitness. I created 5 Elements Studio- Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness, a facility dedicated to share world-class Jiu-Jitsu to people of all ages and levels, from beginners to competition athletes.
I am a second degree black belt athlete and professor that is helping others (kids and adults) pursue excellence in any endeavor they pursue in their lives through this martial art. Jiu-Jitsu is a gateway to know that discipline brings freedom in one’s life, mastery of a craft takes time hence you learn about patience, and connection to others is about being in the present moment, which is essential when training this craft. Moreover, I am certified nutritionist and certified personal trainer with decades of experience helping others achieve better health and fitness.
I was born in Madrid, Spain, was recruited as a Division I collegiate athlete and graduated from Southern Methodist University .

I am married to a beautiful Texan woman and we have an amazing 7 year old boy. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to create a life in the USA where I, along my team of fantastic instructors, serve others through this amazing martial art.
In addition, I am an active competitor in the most prestigious Jiu-Jitsu competitions worldwide, which gives me an additional level of understanding of this craft, in order to serve my students, whether they want to compete or not.
I am excited about sharing the multitude of benefits one can achieve when training at 5 Elements Studio- Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness; both psychological and physical well-being, a community of people of all ages having fun while improving their fitness, their health and the connection to each other.
I invite you to connect with us and see for yourself how we can serve you and your dear ones by improving your lives at multiple levels.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
Seeing my 7 year old being born, and the potential to instill in him goodness and discipline and all the good qualities a human being can adopt, and empower him to become his very best version.
This moment helped me realize how much power and responsibility I have in my position as a teacher, educator and coach, to positively influence kids and adults alike

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
I came from a family that didn’t understand actual love, affection, self-acceptance, empowerment, self-accountability and discipline. I had to learn them on my own. It wasn’t easy, as I stumbled one time after another trying to figure things out during my younger years, but I never gave up. My faith, coupled with my athletic pursuits, gave me a sense of direction. Through the years, I learn from everyone I came across in my life how to embrace these aspects. Prayer, meditation, living a life of purpose, a wonderful family, and a fantastic community of people I built through 5 Elements Studio Jiu-Jitsu & Fitness provides me with the reinforcements to enhance my healing and the healing of those around me,

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Integrity, and taking care of others as much as taking care of oneself.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
Genuine connection to one another, precision and results in their training, friendship.
