Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Burris.
Hi Abby, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Georgia—a Southern girl at heart—and found my way to Texas, where I studied scenic design at TCU. My background in design sparked my love for creating beautiful, thoughtfully considered spaces, but I quickly realized I was equally drawn to the people and experiences behind them.
After graduating in 2023, I founded Trend + Tradition Weddings as a way to bring those passions together. What started with a love for design and beautiful celebrations has grown into a business rooted in genuine hospitality, strong relationships, and creating wedding days that couples can actually slow down and enjoy.
Today, I’m honored to work with couples throughout Dallas and beyond to create celebrations that feel distinctly like them. My goal is to pair beautiful design with an organized, proactive planning process so that from the first decisions to the wedding day itself, my couples feel supported and confident in what we’re creating together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a perfectly smooth road—building something of your own rarely is. One of the biggest challenges has been establishing a name and reputation in an industry where relationships and trust mean everything. I’ve had to learn when to say yes, when to say no, and how to grow without sacrificing the level of care I want every client to receive.
There have also been plenty of moments of uncertainty as I’ve figured out exactly what I want Trend + Tradition to look and feel like and learned to trust my own vision along the way. But those challenges have been some of the most valuable parts of the journey. They’ve made me more confident in my voice, more discerning about how I grow the business, and more committed to building something that reflects the kind of planner I want to be.
We’ve been impressed with Trend & Tradition Weddings and Events, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Trend + Tradition Weddings is a Dallas-based wedding planning company creating celebrations that feel elevated, personal, and rooted in genuine hospitality. I work with couples across a range of celebrations—from intimate gatherings to larger, more formal weddings—and offer Coordination, Guided Planning, and Complete Planning so couples can choose the level of support that best fits their needs.
At the heart of Trend + Tradition is the belief that luxury isn’t necessarily about spending the most money. To me, luxury is feeling cared for. It’s knowing that the details have been considered, your priorities have been heard, your guests have been thought about, and you can walk into your wedding day without carrying the logistics with you.
Design is certainly a part of what I love, but I never want to create a wedding simply because something is trending. I’m much more interested in understanding who my couples are and translating that into a celebration that feels like it could only belong to them. Trends can be beautiful, but personality is what gives a wedding staying power.
Behind the scenes, I’m very proactive. I want to anticipate challenges before they become problems, communicate clearly with both my couples and their vendor teams, and make an overwhelming process feel manageable. By the time the wedding day arrives, my goal is for my couples and their families to feel like they can hand everything over and simply be there.
Relationships are also incredibly important to me. I want to know more than a couple’s wedding colors and venue. I want to know who matters to them, what they’re excited about, what they’re nervous about, and how they want people to feel when they walk into the room. Those conversations influence everything from design decisions to the flow of the evening and the little moments guests may never realize were carefully planned.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the balance Trend + Tradition has found between polished and personal. I love an elevated, beautifully designed wedding, but I never want sophistication to come at the expense of warmth, personality, or joy.
Ultimately, hiring a wedding planner is about so much more than having someone manage a timeline or coordinate vendors. It’s having someone in your corner who understands the bigger picture, advocates for what matters to you, manages the moving pieces, and gives you permission to actually experience the day you spent so much time creating. I want my couples to look back and remember how their wedding felt, not how much work it took to make it happen.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is picking blackberries with my parents on summer evenings at our farm in Georgia. I’d wander through the fields and inevitably eat just as many berries as I picked. It’s such a simple memory, but it reminds me of home, family, and the beauty of slowing down enough to enjoy where you are—something I still really value today.
