Hidden Gems: Meet Ace Carter of Ace Grant Solutions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ace Carter.

Hi Ace, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started Ace Grant Solutions after many years working in grant financial management and compliance across government entities, consulting firm, and industry. Over time I noticed a consistent pattern. Many organizations were doing excellent program work, but the financial documentation and compliance structure behind the grant was often built on the fly.
Federal and state grants come with detailed requirements under regulations like Uniform Guidance. Organizations are understandably focused on implementing the program itself, but when documentation and financial tracking systems are not designed from the beginning, the pressure often appears later during reimbursement requests, monitoring reviews, or audits. Through my work preparing reimbursement requests, reviewing financial documentation, and conducting compliance reviews, I saw how often these challenges were caused not by lack of effort but by missing systems and unclear documentation structures.

My background as a CPA working extensively in grant financial management shaped how I approach this work. Grants operate at the intersection of program execution and financial compliance, and I focus on bringing the same level of financial discipline and documentation clarity expected in audit environments into everyday grant operations.

Ace Grant Solutions grew out of that perspective. The goal is to help organizations build practical systems for managing grant documentation, financial tracking, and reimbursement support so teams can focus more on their mission and less on scrambling during compliance reviews.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a completely smooth road. One of the main challenges has been helping organizations recognize how important financial structure and documentation systems are for long term grant success. In many organizations, the focus is naturally on the program side of the grant. Teams are working hard to deliver the outcomes the funding was meant to support. The financial documentation side often receives attention later, sometimes only when a reimbursement request, monitoring review, or audit is approaching. I have seen situations where teams preparing for a review realize that several months of supporting documentation are scattered across multiple systems or personal folders. The work itself was legitimate, but the documentation structure was never designed with an audit trail in mind. Helping organizations prevent that situation is a core part of the work behind Ace Grant Solutions.
Another challenge early on was building trust as an independent advisor. Grant teams are often already under significant pressure, so bringing in outside support requires confidence that the guidance will be practical and aligned with how funding agencies actually review documentation. Over time, those relationships grow as organizations see how much smoother grant management becomes when financial tracking and documentation systems are organized from the start.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The work often involves helping organizations organize financial documentation, track grant expenses, prepare reimbursement requests, and develop processes that align with regulatory requirements such as Uniform Guidance. Instead of treating compliance as something that only becomes important during reporting periods or audits, the focus is on building systems that support the grant throughout its lifecycle and ensure teams are prepared for monitoring reviews and financial audits.

What sets Ace Grant Solutions apart is the perspective behind the work. The approach combines CPA level financial discipline with hands on experience working across the full lifecycle of grant funded projects. That includes supporting major federal and state funded programs, participating in the development of federal compliance guidance such as the OMB Compliance Supplement, and working closely with teams on both operational and financial aspects of grant management.

Brand wise, what I am most proud of is helping organizations feel more confident in an area that can often feel overwhelming. When financial tracking and documentation are structured properly, teams spend far less time worrying about compliance issues and far more time focusing on the work their grants were meant to support.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is helping organizations build systems that allow them to manage their grants with confidence and clarity. Many grants support programs that have a real impact on communities, research, infrastructure, and innovation, and strong financial management plays an important role in protecting that funding.

Through Ace Grant Solutions, I focus on helping organizations bring structure and transparency to the financial side of grant management. When documentation is organized and financial records are clear, teams spend far less time worrying about compliance issues and far more time focusing on the work the grant was meant to support.

Strong grant management often happens behind the scenes, but it plays a critical role in making sure programs can continue without disruption. Seeing teams feel prepared rather than anxious when a monitoring review or audit approaches is incredibly rewarding because it means the systems are working and the organization can stay focused on its mission.
