Today we’d like to introduce you to Adriana Esparza.
Hi Adriana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
So, when the world came to a screeching halt a couple of years ago, I had nothing but time on my hands. I have always been interested in jewelry making. So, I started watching some videos on YouTube and slowly but surely started buying all the tools that I needed. Once I had the basic concept of fabricating the hardware, I needed to come up with something clever to make me stand out. I came across a swimsuit that I really loved the pattern & color, of and hated to part with but I knew no longer fit me. (Thank you, Pandemic, lol!) so I started taking it apart. Watched a few more videos & next thing you know I made my first pair of Boujee’s. Looking back at my first few pair yikes! So glad my product has gotten so much better. It’s a constant work in progress.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I wish! First, I was making my hardware too big. I love big earrings that don’t mean everyone else does! Then getting my fabric to not unravel was a challenge. The light bulb clicked & it all started to come together. Then the whole social media thing. It’s a full-time job promoting yourself when you have a whole full-time job & family, but it’s been all worth it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I make handmade jewelry from upcycled bathing suits. Making our jewelry 100% waterproof. My line is meant to be worn to Boujee up your swimsuit for that swanky pool party, lake time, or beach vacation. BB isn’t just for those occasions; you can wear them every day with any outfit. The waterproof is a plus! I’m most proud that I stepped out of my comfort zone & tried something that I knew failure was a big possibility. I didn’t fail. I kept trying until I got it right! Thanks to the love & support from my family Boujee Beach is doing well. My sweet mother is my right-hand lady. She sanitizes, preps & cuts my fabric so that it’s ready for me to assemble. I couldn’t do BB without her!! One of my favorite things to do when a collection comes together is name them. It’s the cherry on top for me.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
How much do people truly care about one another? I’ve been a hairdresser for 28 years and have had a handful of clients for those 28 years. When we were forced to shut down my client’s friends, and family stepped up to the plate like I never imagined. That is a huge part of why my first few collections were named after my client’s friends and family.
