Amaria, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m a 23-year-old from Dallas, Texas, and one of 14 children. Growing up, I was quiet, observant, and always drawn to creating with my hands — from culinary and construction classes to knitting and crocheting. In high school, I started my first small business selling $5 lip gloss, later expanding into durags and even doing hair on the side. After graduation, I dove deeper into body care, first making products for women. But as I researched, I noticed how oversaturated the women’s market was compared to the lack of care for men. That gap caught my attention, and as a woman observing it, I felt called to step in. That’s when I created Esse — a brand dedicated to men’s body care and whole-man wellness — and that journey has led me to where I am today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’ve faced creative blocks, financial limitations, and moments of deep doubt. One of my biggest struggles has been singling myself out — feeling like I wasn’t qualified to create a product for men. Even now, that thought still creeps in sometimes. There have also been times when I wanted to quit altogether and stepped back because of the stress and hardship — but those breaks often made things harder in the long run. Still, each challenge has pushed me to grow, reminded me why I started, and reinforced that this journey isn’t just about me — it’s about serving a need and filling a gap I couldn’t ignore.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Esse is a premium men’s body care brand built around more than just skincare — it’s about whole-man wellness. Our flagship product is a 24-hour hydrating body butter that delivers refined luxury and lasting hydration, but what sets us apart is the community behind it. Esse was created because I saw the gap: men weren’t being cared for in the same intentional way women were.

We specialize in creating products that are simple, effective, and masculine, while also cultivating a brotherhood through our “Gentlemen of Esse” community — a space for men to connect, share, and build each other up. I’m most proud that Esse isn’t just a brand, it’s a movement. Every jar we sell is tied to the mission of confidence, strength, and legacy.

What I want readers to know is that Esse is about more than looking or smelling good — it’s about feeling good, inside and out. We’re not just providing body care; we’re redefining what self-care looks like for men and giving them a space to be seen.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is running in my late great-grandmother’s garden, chasing fireflies and butterflies. It felt like something out of a movie — warm, cinematic, and full of light. In those moments, I was completely free, without a care in the world, and that sense of freedom and wonder has always stayed with me.
