Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Sultan
Hi Amina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My life has been shaped by the unwavering faith that carried me through every major decision. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, as the eldest of five sisters, I was raised by loving parents who instilled confidence and strength in me. I pursued my passion for nursing at Aga Khan Nursing School before moving to London in search of opportunity. There, I got married and had two children. When my marriage became an unbearable cycle of physical and emotional abuse, my children gave me the strength to make the hardest decision of my life. I fled to Pakistan to protect them, believing with absolute certainty that they deserved a better future.
That same blind faith guided me when I was given the opportunity to come to the U.S. My children and I lived in a women’s shelter. At the shelter I was able to have a safe and comfortable home where I could get back up on my feet. In one of th exercises at the shelter, I was encouraged to write down my dreams. I wrote about owning a business and ensuring my children had the life they deserved. I worked three jobs at a time to keep food on the table while studying to get my U.S. nursing license. I started in home health, driving hours to visit patients, and worked my way up until I was able to start my own home health business. Years later, I expanded into hospice care, honoring the deeply meaningful work of supporting families during their most difficult moments.
Today, I have accomplished some of my biggest dreams. and I want to continue making an impact. My children remain my greatest inspiration, and I am proud to be a business owner. But when people ask how I did it, I tell them it was not just me. It was God. Every decision, no matter how impossible it seemed, was made with faith. Nothing is impossible, and impossible is nothing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. Having the self-confidence that was instilled in me from a young age torn down over the years in an abusive marriage was one of the toughest challenges. I do not remember much from those years—I have forgotten them. But what I do remember is the growth that came after. That experience taught me about the incredible resilience we carry within ourselves.
Eventually, I found the strength to leave everything behind. We had just moved into a new home, a place I had hoped would bring comfort, but I walked away from it all. When I arrived at my family’s home in Pakistan, my own sister did not recognize me. That moment made me realize just how much I had lost, but it also reinforced my belief that I had made the right choice for my children and myself.
Coming to America was an entirely different challenge. I had no idea what I was doing, and every day was a learning experience. Thankfully, I received support from faith-based charities and government assistance, which helped me stay afloat. But receiving assistance also meant being judged by others. Many people felt entitled to look down on me, as if needing help made me less capable. I had to push past that and remind myself that my circumstances did not define me.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Empathy and attentiveness are the most important qualities that have contributed to my success. Taking care of someone’s elderly loved one is not just a service; it is a deeply personal responsibility. Families entrust us with the well-being, dignity, and comfort of those they cherish most, and that trust is something I do not take lightly.
Empathy allows me to see beyond medical needs and truly understand the emotional and personal aspects of care. It helps me connect with patients and their families, ensuring they feel heard, valued, and supported. Attentiveness ensures that every detail, from a patient’s medical condition to their personal preferences, is carefully considered. Whether it is recognizing small changes in a patient’s health, understanding a family’s concerns, or simply offering a comforting presence, being fully present and engaged makes all the difference.
In both home health and hospice care, the little things matter—listening to a patient’s stories, respecting their wishes, and being there during the most vulnerable moments. That level of care and dedication is what sets our organization apart and is what I believe every family deserves when making these critical decisions for their loved ones.
