Hidden Gems: Meet Amy Sierra of Artist Uprising Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Sierra.

Amy Sierra

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started with Artist Uprising Studio as a studio admin working part-time. I had been working at Starbucks for almost two years as a supervisor as well. After about 4 months of hard work and determination, I was offered the role of part-time manager, and I left my Starbucks role in hopes of moving up. I really love Artist Uprising for their mission statement and their passion for the arts. After a month, I was then promoted to full-time manager and given creative freedom to elevate the space in all aspects.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When first stepping up to full-time manager, there were no clear systems in place. As a detail-oriented person, that had to change immediately. Everything was categorized, labeled, and systemized in order for my brain and the studio to run smoothly. I was lucky enough to have the full backing of my boss, Merrick Porcheddu, to do what the studio needed in my own way. She has trusted me to the fullest extent and provided me guidance on the direction we should take the studio to.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Artist Uprising Studio?
Artist Uprising Studio started in 2020 as a space where creatives in the Far North Dallas area, Richardson, can go for an open space that feels modern and editorial. It is a natural light studio with functional garage doors that provide a modern industrial vibe. The building itself used to be an automotive shop that was abandoned. Artist Uprising obtained the building and converted it into a photography studio! We even won the 2020 Richardson Community Revitalization Award. I, as a manager, deal with clients, schedule admins, manage social media, create murals for the studio, curate furniture, and even creatively direct photoshoots for internal use. We offer curated furniture, open space inside, complete privacy, and amazing natural light with our space. As a company, we have in-house photographers that specialize in editorial, lifestyle, branding, family, engagements, and so much more. You are, of course, welcome to bring your own photographer of your liking as well! Every Monday, all year, is 50% off, and we have monthly promos, which can be found on our Instagram @artistuprisng.studio and Facebook.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
An openness to new ideas and pushing creativity as a manager has lead me to making improvements in the physical image of the studio as well as the online presence. A photography studio can practically run itself if it has good systems in place and an active manager that wants the business to grow.
