Hidden Gems: Meet Andrea Apple of Pure Barre Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Apple.

Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I recently retired from a 30+ year career in corporate America, primarily in the food and beverage industry. Throughout my professional journey, I’ve always had a deep passion for health, fitness, and nutrition. I’m a Registered and Licensed Dietitian and was also a collegiate basketball player, so movement and wellness have been lifelong themes for me. As I entered this next chapter, I knew I wanted to pursue something that aligned with both my personal interests and values. Pure Barre offered the perfect blend—a vibrant community, a focus on wellness, and a business model that allows me to make a meaningful impact in people’s lives every day.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Overall, the transition has been rewarding, but it hasn’t been without its challenges. Stepping into small business ownership for the first time—and within a franchise system—came with a learning curve. One of the biggest priorities was ensuring a smooth leadership transition for the amazing team already in place. Earning their trust, preserving the studio’s culture, and learning the day-to-day operations while keeping the business growing all required intention and adaptability. But I’ve found that leaning into my corporate experience and listening closely to my team have made all the difference.

We’ve been impressed with Pure Barre Richardson, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pure Barre is a low-impact, high-intensity workout that builds strength, balance, and flexibility. We offer four class formats, all rooted in techniques from ballet, Pilates, and yoga. What makes us unique is that every class is musically driven, so you’re always moving to the beat, which makes the workout fun, energizing, and effective.
But what really sets us apart is the community. From the moment someone walks into the studio, we want them to feel seen, supported, and celebrated—whether they’ve been coming for years or it’s their very first class.
I’m most proud of the culture we’ve built. It’s empowering. It’s welcoming. We cheer each other on, and we celebrate every win—big or small. That’s the magic of Pure Barre, and it’s what keeps people coming back.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Yes! I love finding inspiration and tools that help me stay grounded and growing—both personally and professionally.
Recent books I have read are: Atomic Habits by James Clear has really helped me rethink how small changes add up to big impact. And Dare to Lead by Brené Brown is a favorite—it helped me step into this new leadership role with more courage and heart.
