Today we’d like to introduce you to Andres Terrazas.
Hi Andres, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
That’s a great question. My story is one of hard work, community involvement, and balancing a successful corporate career with an entrepreneurial passion.
My journey to the U.S. began when my family immigrated to Midland, West Texas, when I was just 10 years old. Growing up there instilled a deep appreciation for the opportunities available here. I later moved to the DFW area for college and graduated from UTD in Richardson.
Professionally, I’ve spent my entire career in the financial services sector, focusing on building strong client relationships. Today, I serve as a Relationship Manager at Principal, where I help individuals and businesses achieve their financial goals.
About four years ago, I started my passion project and side hustle, SimplyBetterCabinetry. This business is a true labor of love, focusing on building high-quality, custom built-in cabinets. It’s been incredibly rewarding to apply my business acumen to a creative venture that directly enhances people’s homes.
Finally, giving back to the community where I live is extremely important to me. I’m heavily involved locally, serving as a Board Member for the Prosper Education Foundation and as a Commissioner for the City of Celina Downtown Commission.
In short, I’ve moved from an immigrant childhood in West Texas, through a disciplined career in finance, to becoming a community leader and successful entrepreneur with SimplyBetterCabinetry.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
That’s a very insightful question. While the journey has been rewarding, it certainly hasn’t been a smooth road; it’s been a path marked by significant challenges that ultimately led to growth.
Here are some of the main struggles I faced along the way:
Culture and Language Hurdles
When my family and I immigrated to Midland at age 10, one of the most immediate and profound challenges was the language barrier. Learning English while simultaneously trying to keep up with schoolwork and integrate into a new culture was extremely difficult. Understanding the subtleties of American culture took years and required constant effort and adaptation, which can be isolating at times.
Navigating Higher Education
A major challenge was being the first in my family to attend college at UTD. Without the built-in guidance or firsthand knowledge of the university system, I had to figure out everything on my own—from applications and financial aid to course selection and career planning. It required a steep learning curve and a great deal of perseverance to successfully navigate my way to graduation.
Corporate and Entrepreneurial Worlds
Transitioning into the corporate world of financial services presented its own set of difficulties. As a first-generation professional, learning the nuances, politics, and expectations of a large firm required focused mentorship and resilience.
More recently, starting and running SimplyBetterCabinetry as a side hustle while maintaining my demanding role at Principal has been tough. Balancing a full-time career with the responsibilities of a small business owner—covering everything from sales and production to accounting and customer service—is a continuous juggling act. The demands on time and energy are immense, but seeing the custom built-in cabinets come to life and hearing positive client feedback makes every struggle worth it.
These challenges—from learning a new language to pioneering my own path in both the corporate and small business arenas—have ultimately shaped my perspective and commitment to success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am proud to serve as the Founder and President of the Hispanic Business Alliance, an organization dedicated to fostering economic growth and opportunity for Hispanic business owners and professionals across our rapidly expanding communities.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What truly brings me happiness centers entirely around my family and the shared experiences we create together.
Spending time with my wife and our three kids is the source of my deepest joy. Why? Because that connection—the noise, the laughter, the shared moments—is the foundation of my life. It’s where I feel most grounded and purposeful. Watching my kids learn and grow, and simply being present with my wife, gives me energy and perspective that no professional success can match.
We amplify that happiness through travel, both domestically and abroad. For me, traveling is more than just sightseeing; it’s about breaking out of the routine, seeing the world through new eyes, and building indelible family memories. These shared adventures, whether they’re exploring a national park or wandering the streets of an ancient city, strengthen our bond.
I am particularly happy and excited about our upcoming trip to Spain this summer. Planning it, anticipating the new culture and history we’ll experience as a family, already adds a wonderful layer of joy to my daily life. Happiness, for me, is found in those strong family ties and the continuous journey of exploration we take together.
