Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Williams
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the small town of El Dorado, AR. Volleyball was not a popular sport by any means. I attended a camp at a local D2 school when I was 12, and the coach let me know that he saw potential in me. From that day, I decided I was going to do whatever it took to play college volleyball. However, there were no clubs near me. So, my dad drove me 2 hours twice a week to the closest club to me. From there I competed through my high school years, and obsessed over the sport of volleyball. My summers consisted of traveling far distances to camps, and doing my best to get as many quality touches as possible, despite limited resources. Setting specifically, was a skill that I studied over and over again. When I was on the USAV High Performance A2 team in Colorado, Springs. This opportunity gave me the chance to be in front of college coaches, something that hadn’t happened often for me because of where I lived. Thankfully, my coach for that team, saw potential in me, and immediately got me connected with a few D1 programs, where the recruiting process started. Finally, I committed on a full scholarship to the University of Central Arkansas. I played from 2019-2022, where I graduated early and started working. I still had the option to transfer and play two more years, but I was burnt out. I was not in a healthy environment to thrive, and it really effected my mental and physical state. After about 2 years in the work force, my love and passion for the game returned. I realized how big of an impact the coaches in my younger years had on my game. And I wanted to instill that same confidence and love for the game in the girls around me. I moved to Frisco, TX in May of 2024 and immediately started putting myself out there to help these girls, but more specifically, help those in the setter position. Setting is a very difficult skill to teach, and it’s not easy for someone to coach who never played the position. That’s why I think Setter Precision is so vital for the girls in this area. These girls need direction on the IQ of a setter; when and who to set, why to set them, and when to make a smart offensive play. I am so passionate about what I do, and the growth that has already happened in the past few months. I am so blessed and grateful to have the girls that I work with supporting me and looking to me for guidance!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s been hard to stay organized. I have a lot of people reaching out to me at one time, so the biggest challenge has been trying to find a healthy work/life balance!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Setter Precision?
Setter Precision aims to serve girls who play volleyball, specific in the setter position. Setting as a skill is one of the hardest things to coach in the volleyball world, especially if you’ve never played the position before. A lot of our clinics specifically feature guest coaches who have played or currently play at the D1 level. We want our athletes to get the very best coaching from the highest collegiate level possible. Not just anyone can help coach these clinics. These coaches need to have the experience and expertise to do so.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Favorite childhood memory was playing volleyball coached under my very first coaches, Glenn and Virginia Sparks. Back then it was all fun and games. It was a joy having them coach me and be good leaders!
