Today we’d like to introduce you to Barry Hurley.
Hi Barry, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I founded Emerald Medical School after spending 10+ years in the medical field. In a previous company I owned, we hired medical professionals and found that many lacked the necessary training and skills that are required for patient care. My goal was to create a better educational program but I also noticed that there were some other major issues when it came to medical education. One of the top problems was the pricing. Price models for different programs were all over the place ranging from $2,000-$15,000 for a simple certification. At Emerald, we price ALL of our programs the exact same amount to avoid confusion and create more access to otherwise inaccessible programs. Additionally, these programs, which cater mostly to fresh high school graduates or those making minimum wage, had either a laughable 24-48 hour crash course or a ridiculous 9-month long program. You can receive your clinicals and education with us in only 2 months time! Lastly, some of these programs were being taught by individuals who did not have the proper educational backgrounds to teach these courses. So our goal was to create a low-cost, accelerated, nationally accredited program taught by medical professionals with a minimum of 5 years in their respective field. We also did not want to turn away applicants based on their GPA or backgrounds so that we can create an opportunity for EVERYONE to join our wonderful program and begin their career as the next generation of medical professionals.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With a previous business that I owned, the roadmap for me was much simpler as I had a proven track record and referrals right out of the gate.
With Emerald, we are still getting the word out and beginning to capture the attention of the entire DFW area and abroad with our in-person and online courses. It’s been a challenging and very rewarding adventure thus far and I am excited to see how it will continue to challenge me and allow me to grow and learn from the experience.

We have recently joined the Murphy Texas Chamber of Commerce and it has been VERY rewarding in terms of networking and being able to share our company with the local community.
