Today we’d like to introduce you to Bertha Guzman.
Hi Bertha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey has been anything but linear — but that’s what makes it exciting.
I was born and raised in Venezuela, where I studied Law and graduated Cum Laude. For seven years, I worked as a Corporate Legal Advisor, but I was always a bit of a creative at heart. Even while practicing law, I ran small businesses on the side and wrote a blog about legal topics. Fun fact: my very first client came through that blog — long before “content marketing” was a buzzword!
In 2018, life took me to Rio de Janeiro, and that move became the turning point for my career. I took the leap and transitioned into marketing. I started as a Marketing Assistant in a retail company with 21 branches across Rio. It was like getting an MBA in real life — I learned how a business truly operates from the inside out. A few years later, I became their Marketing Manager.
Then, in 2021, we moved to the U.S., I became a mom, and once again, it was time for reinvention. That’s when I founded Pipoka Marketing Studio. Since then, I’ve worked with entrepreneurs through online and in-person trainings, and directly with small and midsize businesses.
Today, at Pipoka, we focus on ethical marketing that’s grounded in values — helping brands genuinely connect with their ideal audience, especially those aiming to serve the U.S. Hispanic community. It’s not just marketing; it’s storytelling with purpose.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been anything but a smooth road — more like a winding path with plenty of bumps and pivots.
I’ve had to reinvent myself more than once. Emigrating twice — first to Brazil and then to the U.S. — brought a lot of challenges. When I arrived in Brazil, I barely spoke Portuguese, I was transitioning careers, and I had to go back to studying to catch up. It was humbling, and at times overwhelming.
Building a marketing agency from scratch hasn’t been easy either. The industry is incredibly competitive. You constantly have to evolve, sharpen your skills, and find your unique voice — all while raising a family and trying to take care of your mental health.
At Pipoka Marketing Studio, we’ve chosen a somewhat unconventional path. Multicultural marketing is usually offered by big agencies serving big brands. We decided to make it accessible to entrepreneurs, small, and midsize businesses — and that’s a challenge in itself. But it’s also what makes our work so meaningful.
Balancing motherhood and a career is a whole other story. When I host workshops, women often ask me, “How do you do it all?” The honest answer is — sometimes I don’t know! I just keep going. It takes a lot of resilience, and I feel incredibly grateful to be doing something I genuinely love.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Pipoka Marketing Studio, we believe marketing should be rooted in values, culture, and real human connection — not just trends and algorithms.
We’re a multicultural marketing agency that helps small and midsize businesses connect with the U.S. Hispanic community in authentic, meaningful ways. While most multicultural campaigns are built by big agencies for big brands, we exist to bridge that gap — making this level of cultural strategy accessible to entrepreneurs and local businesses that want to grow without losing their essence.
We offer strategic consulting, content creation, advertising, marketing training, and fractional CMO services — all tailored to brands that want to engage the Latino market with empathy and purpose. We don’t do cookie-cutter solutions. Every client gets a strategy built around who they really are and who they truly want to serve.
What sets us apart? We’re spontaneous, hands-on, and obsessed with creating custom solutions. We meet our clients where they are, and help them go from confusion or inaction to clarity and forward motion. Whether they’re stuck on messaging, visibility, or how to genuinely reach their audience — we help them unlock momentum.
Brand-wise, I’m proud of how many people tell us that Pipoka feels “human.” That’s intentional. We want every brand we touch to feel more aligned, more alive, and more connected to their audience. And that’s what we’re most passionate about — helping brands not just show up, but show up with purpose.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories is reading — endlessly and with total freedom.
My dad was the manager of a Spanish publishing company in Venezuela, so I had access to an incredible variety of books from a very young age. After school, while other kids might have played outside, I would dive into stories for hours. Books became my escape, my window to the world, and the place where I learned to dream big. That early love for reading shaped not only how I think and communicate today, but also my curiosity and creativity — both of which fuel the work I do now.
