Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Johns.
Hi Brittany, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I originally started working as a kennel worker leading to kennel manager at a veterinary hospital and moved my way up to veterinary technician. I did this for 12 years in total, but my true love was taking care of the animals in the kennel making sure they were happy, healthy and well taken care of while their owners were away. That eventually let me to pet sitting for extra money. My boss allowed me to tell our clients I offered that service and it really took off however balancing my technician working as well as pet sitting became difficult so I chose to take the leap and fully transition over to pet sitting. I was so nervous but that was the best thing I ever did.
I get to be my own boss and do what I love and I feel extremely lucky to be working for myself doing something I am so passionate about.
I graduated from high school but I never went to college and truly wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and now I know exactly what my career plans are. I am hoping to be able to open my own facility in the near future offering boarding, daycare training and grooming.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My entire life has not been a smooth road so truthfully the struggles I’ve had with my business have seemed easy. The hardest part of my job is managing being the only employee with so many jobs to do. I’m the boss, the receptionist and the laborer, I truly love the physical work but the clerical work feels daunting at times. Finding personal time can be difficult but when you are passionate about your work it makes it feel less like work.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a small pet care business who offers the following services, dog boarding and doggy daycare as well as grooming in my home, as well as in home drop ins for all type of pets and overnight in home care, dog walking and pet waste removal. I also offer themed photos with each service, I change the theme each month. I worked in the veterinary field as a veterinary technician and kennel manager for 12 years making me a more trusted pet sitter than your average pet sitter you can find on other websites. I specialize in pets who need extra medical care and attention and am willing to take on pets who may be considered fractious because I enjoy the process of helping an animals to trust me, that is why I named my business Naughty Or Nice Pet Care.
How do you think about happiness?
Knowing that animals are happy healthy and well cared for brings me the most happiness. There are too many animals out there who don’t get the quality of life that they deserve so if I am able to make any pet happier during the time they are in my care I am going to do so.
