Hidden Gems: Meet Bryan Yates of Yates Desygn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Yates.

Hi Bryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
With over 30 years of combined experience, Mike and I refined our expertise at renowned companies such as Yabu Pushelberg and Paul Taylor Dance Company, respectively. Our design work has been implemented in many iconic cities around the world, from New York City to Tokyo and beyond.

Yates Desygn is a full-service design firm that theorizes traits and brings concepts to fruition for Interior Design and Architectural Enhancement. Brought together by our passion for style and design, Mike and I married our professional talents to create Yates Desygn in 2015 and established our Dallas-based headquarters in 2016.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think anything in life worth pursuing is a smooth ride or comes easy. For us, and in starting a business, there have been a lot of challenges. From starting a business from the ground up to now managing a full team, it hasn’t all been roses. When we came to Dallas, we brought our New York mentality, never taking no for an answer and hitting the ground running. We knew no one in Dallas other than my sister and spent our first several months here living off of savings and constantly looking for new ways to network and get our names out there. All this to say, it was not an instant start by any means, and it took a lot of “watering the seed” until we hit our stride.

Once we got our feet firmly on the ground, we were able to start growing a team and generating clients, which was a rollercoaster itself. Now that we are more established, our focus is on working on the cycle of referrals and fine-tuning team expectations. It is vital to Mike and me that Yates Desygn is a well-oiled machine on all fronts to guarantee a smooth and consistent experience for every client. Just like every project looks different, so does every day of business. Being a business owner is hard, and we love the challenge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Practicing restraint and clarity, Yates Desygn authors the interiors of our client’s homes with understated elegance and approachable luxury.

At Yates Desygn, we have made it our purpose to connect with our clients at the most personal point in their lives – their homes. We guide our client’s self-expression to bring synergy between the action of their daily lives and the spaces in which they reside. Our goal is to replace intimidation with inspiration, helping our clients enjoy the creative process and articulate what they love.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson we have learned throughout this journey is that with each other’s unwavering support, Mike and I can achieve anything we put our minds to. Within the span of three months, we got married, quit our jobs, moved across the country, and started a business in a city where we knew virtually no one. Looking back, it has been our unstoppable collective unit that has allowed us to build a successful company from scratch. If we can get through all of that, we can get through anything, even supply chain issues!
