Today we’d like to introduce you to Byron C. Bailey.
Hi Byron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised on the border of East Dallas and Pleasant Grove on the 8100 Block of Ferguson Rd. I was born into an all too familiar story of the inner-city kid growing up in an under-resourced community fueled by government assistance. I tell people all the time that growing up, the litmus test for “rich” was merely having an active father (we’ll even settle for stepfather). I am a proud alumni of the Dallas Independent School District (Bayles Elementary, Gaston Middle, and Lincoln High School).
I lead with that to emphasize that where I lacked in economic resources, the support of my family was some of the most rich privileges I was afforded. Everyone who went to school with knows my mother was an active PTA member (read, officer) for the 12 years I was in grade school. Anyone else who knows me knows that my late grandfather may be the most influential person in my life in terms of habit and mentality. He taught me to never make excuses and never break commitments.
I was also a competitor. Competition drove me to want to have the best grades and be the best athlete. So, there it began. Getting the best grades afforded me more opportunities to experience more of life. So, the race to experiencing life began. In high school, my grades led me to interning with one of the largest personal injury law firms in the state of Texas my junior year of high school. Such an internship carried over into college.
I was able to receive a full-ride scholarship to Texas Christian University through the Community Scholars program. There, I majored in Entrepreneurship at a Top 10 Entrepreneurship School in the country. Also, while in college, I worked full-time as a Regional Director for a mentoring and tutoring program covering the Fort Worth ISD Campuses of O.D. Wyatt, Dunbar, and Eastern Hills High School. Also, while in college, I joined the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., which allowed me to build lifelong relationships with other great men, practice my entrepreneurship skills, and serve the (at the time) TCU Community in another of social and service events.
After graduating from TCU, I worked for a few years but had the desire to learn more about how legal, political, and business systems worked, so I matriculated into Texas A&M School of Law. Law school is where I learned to believe that I can compete with anybody from any background because my unique background and the perseverance it took me to get to where I was provided unique arguments and ways to problem solve.
Such an affirmation in myself led to the commitment to unabashedly embrace me and the culture that made me. This affirmation also led me to reflecting on how many brilliant kids who group up near me were not afforded the same opportunities I was due to lack of support, resources, or just plain affirmations.
Thus, I was committed to providing those virtues to the youth. One way I was able to do so was by coaching lacrosse in Oak Cliff, Texas for Bridge Lacrosse for 10 years.
Armed with an undergraduate degree in Entrepreneurship, legal and political training in Law School, and socio-emotional transformational leadership in coaching and mentoring youth, I figured it was time to cling to my affirmation and serve communities who are often not resourced with access to knowledge of the law, let alone an attorney.
Thus, Haley, Bailey & Jones was hatched. And two of my friends, who share similar stories as me, came together to form our Law Firm to provide a law firm that is committed to serving the community in whatever way we can. If we currently do not offer that service, we pride ourselves on building a network of attorneys focused on providing the same quality of service.
We currently focus on personal injury, probate process, estate planning, business litigation, business general counsel services, sports, entertainment, and influence counseling services, and family law.
We pride ourselves on being the lawyers you know.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Had you asked me this question 6 months ago, I would have said the road was rough. Now, I am at a peace in my life to where I can truly appreciate every life experience I have had to make me who I am. People often marvel my story and path when I tell them ALL the things I have been through and seen. Those who know me most know my story. I just tell my story and allow for others to determine whether the facts I present was a struggle or just an opportunity to learn and build emotional wealth.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about Haley, Bailey & Jones, PLLC?
We are a full-service law firm who prides ourselves on serving and educating the community on their legal rights. So much wealth is forfeited due to lack of knowledge of opportunities or protections that are afforded to us. Such knowledge inspired me want to use my legal training to educate on and assist people with optimizing their just due. Be it getting the appropriate medical treatment and compensation from a vehicular accident or slip and fall, preparing an estate plan and properly administering it, or making sure your business is fully protected, or have a zealous advocate to enforce rights you are due, Haley, Bailey & Jones is committed to educating and assisting people with fully receiving what is rightfully theirs.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
With the advent of social media democratizing the ways wealth is earned, I can foresee a huge need for people to be ready to receive, manage, and protect wealth that can come overnight. One viral video can open a wealth of opportunity for a person who may not even have a bank account. That person or business needs sound counsel to ensure that they are receiving all the compensation they are entitled to. Further, they need to make sure that compensation is protected and transferred to their loved ones in the manner in which they would want it to be transferred.
