Hidden Gems: Meet Carlie Lara of Findyouryumm Restaurant Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlie Lara.

Hi Carlie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always loved trying new food. When I was little, my first entrepreneurial goal was to try every cheesecake at the cheesecake factory and rank them! During my junior year of high school, I started facing some gastrointestinal problems and had to be on a restricted diet for over a year. When I was able to start enjoying the foods I love again, I had a new appreciation for them! During the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, I hated the fact that so many good businesses were shutting down, and I wanted to use the power of marketing to promote good businesses! I started my blog on Instagram, have found a passion for food criticism through it, and want to grow!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! I am a sophomore here at SMU, and as soon as I got to Dallas, I wanted to try all of the restaurants here as soon as possible. I realize that that was not sustainable financially and it didn’t make my body feel the best. I have found now a good balance between going out and trying new things, but honoring my body and bank account!

We’ve been impressed with Findyouryumm Restaurant Consulting, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am working towards my bachelor’s at SMU and do not have an official brand. However, I would like to get into restaurant consulting in my future! For now, I just go to restaurants and review them, sometimes I talk to the managers too! I hope that through my honest feedback they can be better!

Any big plans?
In my future, I would like to be a food critic and restaurant consultant! I want to continue to grow my blog in order to gain recognition and credibility. When I graduate, I would like to either join a consulting firm or start my own! I down, I want to move beyond just being a college sophomore that tells five-star steak restaurants how to be better!!
