Hidden Gems: Meet Celia Prieto of The Skin Bungalow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celia Prieto.

Hi Celia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
When you are young and have never experienced problematic skin, you automatically assume you dodged the time of teen acne and it is all uphill. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In my early 20’s I began to suffer from severe cystic acne. I didn’t know at the time that a combination of poor diet, hormonal imbalances, and stress were all my triggers. With no knowledge of skin and a very tight bank account, I decided Groupon facials would be the way to go. I dove in hard and fast. From basic facials to IPL photo facials, from great experiences to scary ones, I knew I was obsessed and the seed of interest had been planted. It took time and deliberation but in 2016 I finally decided to take a leap of faith and enrolled at Ogle School-Mockingbird. After working at a few different spas, I realized that I wanted a place to call my own. I had a desire to help people and share what I had/was learning in my own way. I wanted to provide first-class service with medical-grade products at an obtainable rate, something I so desperately needed in the beginning of my journey… and so, in 2021, The Skin Bungalow was born.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I wouldn’t say smooth, but more unpredictable. Every week I embark upon presents new challenges but also lessons. In this field education is pivotal, the times are changing and the only way to be great is to constantly be learning. Slow weeks have shown me to work harder, busy weeks motivate me to keep pushing because it’s all falling into place and positive reviews let me know that I am on the right path. Building a solid clientele is hard and takes time but if you stop trying to “build clients” and focus on “building relationships” you’ll find the clients that are meant for you will always stay. The struggle is simply part of the story.

We’ve been impressed with The Skin Bungalow, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The Skin Bungalow was established in 2020 as a home-based studio but quickly grew and since September has found a home at The Village Salons in Lakewood. We specialize in customized skincare treatments using a combination of both holistic and medical-grade products. I am constantly researching to provide my clients the most innovative and modern treatments available. Facials should be about relaxation but more importantly results, and I like to think that is what sets apart The Skin Bungalow from others. Every treatment includes a thorough skin analysis, customized treatment, product education, and personalized at-home regimen. All of our products used are award-winning medical-skincare lines dedicated to formulating result-driven products. So, whether you are looking to correct hyperpigmentation, reduce scarring, treat acne or simply have a relaxing facial, The Skin Bungalow has you covered.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Believe in yourself and kick aside any self-doubt you may have. Overthinking only creates headaches and kills dreams. Meet someone new every day, ask questions every chance you get, surround yourself by people who inspire you, use social media intentionally (it’s a free learning platform if you use it wisely), be inspired but always remain authentic to yourself, be gentle on yourself and remember to never compare your day 1 to another’s day 100. Being patient will push your through the weeks where you wonder if going solo was the right move. Keep finding your niche and remember your calling will not stop calling until you answer.
