Today we’d like to introduce you to Celia Velazquez.
Celia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I came to the United States at 16 with a child, pregnant with my second, not knowing English and working factory and nursing home jobs. Determined to build a better life, I studied English, computers, and medical billing while raising my children. In 1993, after the heartbreaking loss of my son Octavio, I drew strength from my other two children and pressed forward. Out of desperation, I launched Tex Med Claims Management in 1994, which evolved into Mi Pueblo Services Inc. My youngest sister, then two more sisters, and later my children joined me as the company grew into Mi Pueblo Supreme Insurance LLC and MPS Tax Solutions. Today, after 30+ years, what began in hardship has become a family legacy serving three generations of clients with faith, resilience, and purpose.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. I came to the U.S. at 16, not speaking English, with one child and expecting another. I worked in factories and nursing homes to survive, all while learning English and studying at night.
In 1993, I faced the greatest loss of my life when my son Octavio passed away. I thought I couldn’t go on, but my other two children gave me the strength to keep moving forward. Starting my business in 1994 out of desperation, I faced financial struggles, long nights, cultural barriers, and doubts from others.
Yet, each challenge made me stronger. My faith in God, determination to learn, and commitment to my family and community turned those obstacles into the foundation of what is now Mi Pueblo Services.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mi Pueblo Services Inc?
Mi Pueblo Services Inc. began almost by accident but has grown into a trusted name in the Dallas–Fort Worth community for over 30 years. We specialize in tax preparation, IRS representation, business consulting, payroll, bookkeeping, and insurance solutions through our sister companies Mi Pueblo Supreme Insurance LLC and MPS Tax Solutions.
We serve individuals, families, and businesses many of them Hispanic immigrants like myself helping them navigate complicated systems and build a stronger financial future. What makes us different is that we don’t just provide a service; we treat every client like family. Many of the people I helped in the early days are now bringing me their children and grandchildren. That is the greatest compliment I could ever receive.
Our business is also a family legacy. My sisters were the first to join me, and later my children became part of the company. Together we’ve built not just a business, but a community resource rooted in faith, integrity, and resilience.
At Mi Pueblo, our mission is simple: to empower our clients with knowledge, representation, and solutions they can trust. We are proud to be a bridge of support for three generations and counting.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is not measured only by money or titles it is measured by the lives you impact. I define success as being able to look back and know that I helped families, guided businesses, and opened doors for others that once seemed closed to me.
Success is also about building something bigger than myself. My sisters were the first to join me, and later my children became part of this legacy. Along the way, I have also employed many non-family members, giving others in my community the opportunity to grow, provide for their families, and be part of something meaningful.
Most importantly, success for me means staying faithful to God’s purpose in my life. I started out in pain and desperation, but with resilience and faith, that struggle turned into a blessing for my family, my employees, and my community. To me, that is true success.
