Hi Chikeitha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story began with a deep passion for helping others, starting my career with the State of Texas in social services and OIG investigations. Working at Dallas Metrocare Behavioral Health Services and Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services as a Child Protective Services Investigator provided a foundational understanding of the resilience and struggles faced by individuals in need. These early experiences were pivotal, shaping my approach to compassionate and effective care.
I then transitioned to working at several non-profit organizations, where I continued to broaden my impact. At Nexus Recovery Center, I delved deeper into helping individuals with substance abuse addiction and mental health issues. Each role I undertook was a valuable learning experience, highlighting the complexities of mental health and the critical importance of holistic, empathetic care.
While I still work with a general population dealing with depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma, my current focus has shifted toward the gut and mental health. My work in Bariatric Support is particularly rewarding as well, as it intertwines physical health with mental well-being, guiding clients towards comprehensive transformation.
My faith as a Christian plays a significant role in my approach, providing a foundation of hope and compassion in all I do. This part is amazing because it allows me to pour into my clients who are of the same faith and help them grow based upon their spiritual foundation. This journey has been more than a career; it’s a calling that allows me to touch lives in profound ways, offering support, guidance, and a path to healing.
Life experiences have allowed me to help people in many different areas, and it’s this diversity that makes my work incredibly fulfilling. Each client’s story is unique, and being part of their journey toward better mental health and overall well-being is a privilege I cherish every day.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
This journey has not been smooth but very bumpy at times. Of course as we say not that “life be lifing”. I have had children and raising a family through the educational process of me trying to gain my degrees. I have started jobs and stopped jobs, struggled on jobs. I have never been fired from a job but through these experiences it allowed me to step out on faith to become an entrepreneur. Becoming an entrepreneur is rewarding but it also comes along with challenges because if you don’t work you don’t get paid. This has been a learning curve and the realization that you must have different sources of income and can’t just put all your eggs in one basket.

I’m Chikeitha Owens, a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, New Jersey, and Florida, a Certified Bariatric Counselor from the American Association of Bariatric Counselors. I own Abundance of Hope Counseling and Chikeitha Owens Global Consulting LLC, where I conduct my speaking and training engagements. With over 16 years of experience in the mental health field, my educational journey includes an MA in Professional Counseling from Argosy University of Dallas and a BS in Psychology from Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an active speaker and trainer through Chikeitha Owens Global Consulting LLC, addressing topics related to gut and brain health, mental health and leadership and coaching. Advocacy is also close to my heart, especially through my involvement with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. My personal journey and professional experiences have uniquely equipped me to support and inspire others in multifaceted ways.
At Abundance of Hope Counseling, my goal is to help people heal, grow, and make positive changes in their lives. With over 16 years of experience, I support individuals, families, couples, and young adults facing challenges like depression, anxiety, addiction, and trauma. My current focus is on the connection between gut health, brain function, and mental health, exploring how our food affects our mood.
I take a holistic approach, meaning I look at both physical and mental health to help my clients succeed. I’m known for my caring, personalized treatment plans and using proven methods to help. My clients appreciate the safe and virtual space, supportive, and non-judgmental environment I provide, where they can talk about their concerns and find effective ways to cope.
I also am the owner of Chikeitha Owens Global Consulting LLC, where I offer speaking and training on mental health, gut health, the brain and leadership topics. My talks are designed to educate, motivate, and inspire, based on my professional experience and personal journey. Advocacy is important to me, and I work with organizations like the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to raise awareness and support.
What makes me unique is my integration of faith into my practice. As a Christian, I believe in the power of hope and compassion, and these values guide everything I do. This spiritual approach helps me connect with clients on a deeper level.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
For me and my personal spiritual beliefs I do not belief in luck. I believe that everything is destined and ordained by God. I believe that whatever God has for me is for me. I believe that everything that happens in this life has to go through God’s hands and nothing can happen without his stamp of approval. I believe that God has played a major role in my business and its growth. During those times when I need a break he will slow the business down and when I need to get back moving he will speed it up. When I experience challenges or setbacks I believe that God is using those as teaching moments and preparing me for something greater. Of course its up to me to grasp that moment and learn from it. All of those things that appear as a setback is a setup for a comeback. The difference with me is what some believe as luck I see as a divine intervention from my Heavenly Father.
