Hidden Gems: Meet Chinyere Onyirimba of Chinyere PharmD Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chinyere Onyirimba

Hi Chinyere, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Science and education have been at the core of my personality for longer than I can remember. Maybe I can blame the stereotypical upbringing of a 1st generation Nigerian-American, but once I found this passion I held on and have not let go since. I was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, where I took every chance I could to be involved from sports to youth organizations. By participating in Teens With a Purpose, I found a voice for speaking and educating my community on health topics. I took this energy to Richmond, VA where I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Health Science degree and went on to obtain my Doctorate in Pharmacy from Notre Dame of Maryland University in Baltimore,MD. I knew that in order to reach the heights I saw for myself I wanted to continue my clinical training and moved to Dallas to complete a pharmacy residency. I am now a practicing, residency trained pharmacist.

Also, all of my experiences have aligned to allow me to combine my passions and skills, using pharmacy as my gateway to providing education to my peers, colleagues, and community using Chinyere PharmD Consulting. Additionally, I have built a community space and brand, called TrapQueensRx, which centers Black womxn and the fullness of their person. TrapQueensRx aims to connect Black womxn across age ranges, professional backgrounds, and walks of life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think if a person said they had a smooth road on their journey to being, then they are not being very honest. My challenges have varied from academic to financial to emotional to all of them at the same time. Moving to a brand new city with no family, and at the height of COVID-19 was ROUGH! I think I could be here for days talking about my past challenges. But I think when you are on the other side of those challenges they feel very faint like you can barely remember them. Those challenges have made me strong enough for today, and made me strong enough to face new challenges and know that I can weather any storm. I believe the same to be true for anyone.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is getting to perform at large festival in Norfolk with Teens With a Purpose. Our performance was largely improv – based. We had performed in various places, and practiced over what felt like a thousand times but this crowd was the biggest. It was scary and exhilarating and we did amazing.
