Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny HUNG
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello, I’m HUNG! Also known as Danny, I started my jewelry business a little over two years ago with the mindset of inclusivity and versatility. HUNG is for everyone. I dont just make ordinary jewelry, I make jewelry you’ve never seen before, everything from full body heavy metal pieces to delicate beaded tops and bottoms. I put time and care into every piece I create using stainless steel materials to ensure the best quality. Making jewelry that lasts not just one lifetime but many! When I stared HUNG I didn’t just ease into it, I hit the ground running; and throughout this time I’ve been able to accomplish more than I could have dreamed. I’ve curated fashion shows, I’ve become a vendor at local flea markets as well as nationwide music festivals, I’ve sold my products all across the United States, I’ve collaborated with other artists, and have learned lots in the process. All that was just in the first year, not to mention I created my LLC; it’s incredible what someone can do when they are passionate about their work, with zero plans of stopping or slowing down, I cannot wait to see what the future holds for HUNG.
Since starting my business I’ve found that a great way to expand my brand and get my products out to more people outside of online sales has been by vending at local markets, events, parades, and music festivals. It’s been incredible getting to know the community I live in because I’ve planted my roots here. Dallas is now my home. Living here gives the opportunity for growth which I one day hope to grow large enough to open up a store front. Until I’m able to do that, what I have done in the meantime is been able to put HUNG in a few vintage stores around Dallas, the most known one being East Dallas Vintage! I know HUNG will one day have its own store and I cannot wait until that dream comes true.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am a proud queer latino man, but I did not grow up that way. Not only putting up with the hardships from being latino in a predominantly white community, but then getting bullied on top of that for being gay taught me early on that nothing is going to be easy. Thankfully that helped me grow stronger as a person and over time it shaped me to be a more well rounded individual. What I actually found more challenging was growing up with a 17 year old mother who still had her own growing up to do. She was a single parent that had to get multiple jobs to support us after her parents threw her out when I was born. Through doing so I had to take on a lot of responsibilities that a kid shouldn’t necessarily have to do but I learned to care for myself and be independent from day one- ultimately motivating me to move on my own to a new city to become my own boss and start a business. Growing up with very little has helped me respect what I have and not take it for granted. I’ve always been mindful and smart with my spending habits, which has taught me the true value of material things. This philosophy translates into my art, where I emphasize creativity and sustainability. I love crafting pieces from recycled and unconventional materials, whether it’s creating a body chain from vintage jewelry I’ve discovered or transforming found metal into stunning artwork. Embracing a minimalist approach has, in a way, allowed me to experience abundance through my artistic expression. Hardships are what make us the people we are today and because of them I without them I don’t believe I would have been as strong and driven as I am.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
