Hidden Gems: Meet Derquisa Taylor of QuisaaGirl Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derquisa Taylor.

Derquisa Taylor

Hi Derquisa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I feel so blessed to celebrate 5 years in Business. QuisaaGirl Boutique started selling clothes and lashes to make every woman feel beautiful in their own skin no matter the make, ethnicity, or background; my heart really goes out to today’s women struggling to find their identity and, in a world built against us.

Growing up, I struggled with the relationship I had with my parents; my ambition and drive often made me feel alone in the direction I felt my life should go. This created distance between them and I. I remember as far as back is fifth grade seeing an individual owned several planes as he transported goods between foreign countries. I was in awe of this man; he could be whoever, do whatever, and see the world. I wanted this for myself. It shocked my family when I graduated Dallas Skyline High School with honors in the top 10%. But it didn’t stop there.

This gave me an opportunity to attend Texas A&M University on an academic scholarship studying Aerospace Engineering. While in college, I often donated to charity and was involved with helping foster children. This kept me grounded; I never wanted any little girl to feel limited. I sponsored children to teach them to never give up and always strive to reach their goals, and to continue to dream big. I wrote a book to help people succeed and follow their dreams. The book is titled 6 figures before 20 because at the age of 19, my business became so success that I wanted to share the wealth and teach others how to be successful in their goals and dreams.

QuisaaGirl Girl Boutique is a one-stop shop! I told my mother and sister I wanted to manufacture and sell clothing, lip gloss, and lashes. Then after a year in business, I expanded QuisaaGirl Girl Boutique to include hair, lashes, clothing, purses, shoes, and accessories. Every month I hold a free giveaway to give back to the community and bless others. Anyone can sign up for the free giveaway at QuisaaGirlBoutique.com or on social media at Quisaagirl Boutique. I always like to announce the winners on my YouTube channel QuisaaGirl Vlogs. I wanted to be a positive impact on my community. I love to help my family and others.

I want to send a special thank you to voyage magazine for giving this girl an opportunity to share her story, and hopefully girls like me see that they can too.

Thank you

Derquisa Taylor

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I grew up in pleasant grove, which is in the city of Dallas. It wasn’t a good neighborhood our house got robbed three days before Christmas, but we weren’t at home; we were visiting my sick grandmother at the nursing home. Being in that neighborhood taught me to strive for greatness, aim high in life, don’t give up, and be a good person even if you can’t find one. Where I lived at the was no hope for kids like me, nobody ever became something in life. At my age, most of my friend had no hope, so they resorted to doing drugs, skipping school, dropping out, and all sorts of bad things. This encourage me to aim higher, to do better than what went on around me. This inspired me to not other make something out of myself but to uplift my family and friends too. I want everyone to succeed in life, I want everyone to be everything they have dreamed of. I want the fatality rates to decrease and literacy rates to increase. I get sad when I see good children taken at a young age; that child could have been the next mayor or the next president; seeing stuff like this gives no hope to people like us. This pushed me to do better but not just for me but for my community and everyone else. I want to start a youth program for kids like me, to help them, to show them that they are not alone, to convey to them that violence is not a solution and neither is not completing high school. Growing up in my neighborhood enabled me to learn things faster because you have to pay attention to everything; you learn to be more mature and careful. Even though my neighborhood wasn’t a fairy tale palace, I wouldn’t change it for the world because it made me who I am.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner of QuisaaGirl Boutique; I specialize in clothing, shoes, purses, cosmetics, jewelry, and accessories. I started this company as a way for women to express themselves. We do giveaways every 3 weeks to give to any who need a little help, or that’s struggling financially. I plan to expand my business to open up a nonprofit organization to help children, homeless, domestic violence victims, and veterans. I want to start a non-profit organization for people with Ichthyosis and single parents. I want to start a homeless shelter that will help the homeless get food, shelter, and a job to help them get back on their feet.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I want to say thank you to my amazing teams, my friends, family, and associates. And I want to say a huge thanks to my employees for all tackling the day and making the magic happen. I want to say a big thank to Mrs. Sylvie, the most amazing, kind, and genuine woman I know.
