Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Young.
Hi Devin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My name is Devin Young, I’m 35 years young married with three children here in Fort Worth, TX. Just like anyone else I had a dream that I wanted to see into reality. Born and raised in Dallas, TX it wasn’t the best part of Dallas, but I seem to escape my reality through a different lense. I started with my very first iPhone taking pictures of the sunset, the neighbor’s dog, and cars. I would download software to edit the pictures, print them out, and bring them to life. It was more than just a picture; it was a moment captured that made art. I continued to use my iPhone up until I met the love of my life. My wife pushed me and sometimes pushed me too hard, but she seen something in me that I put on the back burner. It wasn’t until I received my first Cannon T7 Rebel and a few backdrops. I would set up our living room like it was my own personal studio, taking photos of my wife and kids. Even the customers was in awe when I explained to them that I didn’t have a studio yet. I really worked with what I had. I started to see that dream again. Eventually, I began to advertise all those photos and customers soon came.
You’ll be surprised how many customers loved the fact that I was honest and not exactly where I wanted to be but on my way. To put the cherry on top, I didn’t charge what everyone else charged for photo sessions. Quality is what I look for in every shoot, and I love listening to what my customers needed to make their moments special.
Everything was going great until I had a minor setback in December 2021. We had a house fire, and it destroyed everything but our lives. I still had my dream to become the best Professional Photographer known in Dallas, TX.
I was able to upgrade my camera and lenses and continue on. Now 2023, I’ve learn a lot, and the best part about it God give me a gift that I didn’t have to go to school for. He always sees a way for me to never give up on my dreams, even if it started off with my cell phone.
I encourage everyone that has a dream, no matter your background or where you come from, continue to push through and eventually, you’ll see your dreams come true.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a start-up photographer hasn’t been easy, I started in the midst of the pandemic, at that time my only customers was my kids and my wife. Our living room was my studio. I began to work on my editing, I had to depend on YouTube to learn camera settings and how to edit on the computer. Once outside started to open back up, it was really slow for me. But I kept posting pictures and videos on TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. It was disappointing to put hours into content only to see a few likes. But I kept at it. Hoping one day it’ll soon pay off.

Prosperity photos, the name comes from one of many wealthy scriptures in the Bible, but Psalms 128:2 stood out to me. “You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.” It is God who gave me the gift of photography. He placed it in my heart, and anything that comes from God is good. Unlike most photographers, I labor, but it’s in passion. I don’t look at a client like they are a dollar bill. I look at every photo to see how I can do better what I can improve on. Not to charge a customer more, no. But to improve. The fruit of it is the smile of my clients and how happy I am to serve them. I specialize more in outdoor photography and those life-changing moments like weddings, engagement photos or family portraits. I’m proud to be a true, passionate, faith-based photographer. I’m honest, caring and here for the customer. I don’t take shortcuts when it comes to my customers and giving them what they need done in a timely manner. I offer all photography, from events to model sessions.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years I see myself traveling around the world servicing all different types of clienteles from big wedding events to corporate events. I also see me having a selfie shop photography studio. Where each room is a different theme. I don’t just want to stay in my comfort zone. I want to grow into the one-stop shop photographer.
