Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Carrillo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m a Latina from El Paso, TX, who graduated long ago with a degree in multimedia journalism. I was working in a newspaper for years until one day; I decided I was made for more. When I was a student, I knew I wanted to do something bigger, but to be honest, I didn’t know what.
While working in the news, I was also doing photography, that was my side hustle for so many years. I remember the day when the idea to start a magazine came to my mind, and then the law of attraction came and gave me the best opportunity ever. Someone was selling her brand with a magazine and thousands of followers in a Facebook Group. That was definitely not my plan, but I dared myself to begin. There, I started my life as a business owner, director, and everything else. All the things that include a business, but no one ever shares. I put all my dreams, savings, loan, credit, and soul into the project of my life, and the one that made me go through the biggest failure that I ever experienced.
Thanks to that, I learned that failure is a huge step into success. That failure put me in the hustler/entrepreneur situation that made me keep growing. There were a lot of other micro businesses that I started and failed and started over again. Thanks to this biggest failure (the magazine), I had the opportunity to meet lots of people, other business owners, and entrepreneurs. Some of them were my clients, and eventually, I created a network of more than 17 accounts on social media that were managed by myself. Nowadays, you know that work as a Social Media Manager and content creator.
I was overwhelmed, so I decided to take a break, but at the same time, one of those clients offered me another opportunity to grow. So, I changed paths and started school again but now with a path in healthcare. I learned this as if it were my third language. Eventually, I started a company providing billing services for doctors or healthcare companies, and now that company grew up providing other multiple services such as consulting, billing, management, and marketing. As opportunities came up, I met my now business partner, and we’ve kept growing this business, we hired our first employee, and so on. I learned how to delegate work (yes, that is a huge part of growing), so now I’m having more space in my mind to keep expanding business and growing myself as an entrepreneur and personally as a wife and new mom.
Recently, I decided to restart and rename the business where I used to do social media marketing and photography some years ago. And here I am now. Running this business now called The Createness, with the mission to help other business owners and entrepreneurs to build a thriving brand and business. Currently, I have a small team helping me make huge things to keep providing services to other small businesses. So here I’m sharing this story, and hopefully, it can help someone else to not quit their dreams and keep going and trying. This story will continue for sure…
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I strongly believe that there is no smooth road as a business owner or entrepreneur. But there are moments that make it worth all the struggling. For me, money and funding had been my biggest struggle. Then, motherhood because as a mother you already have your hands full, so how can you do handle something else?… Especially so far away from your hometown and family.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Ok, let me focus on this business because it’s currently my little one. The Createness is a company focused in helping other businesses to find their voice through their brand. With my experience handling multiple social media accounts and different businesses, I noticed that most of them are struggling because they do not have a solid structure for marketing. So, in The Createness, we provide all the tools and information to our clients to help them achieve their marketing and branding goals.
We have a variety of services, and we encourage our clients to book a creative intro session for free to let us know what they want, need, or dream and make sure we can help them to make it happen. This is a complimentary session. Some of the services we provide are the following:
