Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Christal George.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello my name is Dr. Christal George. I’m a native Houstonian now living and thriving in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. I attended Xavier University of Louisiana, where I earned my Doctor of Pharmacy degree, and I’ve been a practicing pharmacist for nearly 19 years. Throughout my pharmacy career, I’ve always had a deep love for skincare and beauty, but it wasn’t until the pandemic that I truly felt called to make a change. Like many others, I experienced burnout and found myself searching—and praying—for my next chapter. That soul-searching led me to esthetics.
The pivot felt natural. I’ve always believed in the power of both science and self-care, and aesthetics allowed me to merge the two. I became a licensed esthetician and opened The Skin Design Studio, a luxury boutique spa in Arlington, Texas. We specialize in results-driven, multicultural skincare. Our services include customized facials, chemical peels, LED light therapy, and SkinPen microneedling—all designed with melanin-rich skin in mind.
But beyond the treatments, what truly sets us apart is our mission. I help my clients build confidence from the inside out. In the studio, we even have a mini library—a curated collection of affirming, self-care, and biographical books to inspire and uplift. I’m immensely passionate about educating my clients, helping them understand their skin, and empowering them to feel seen and celebrated in their skincare journey.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? No. Rewarding? Absolutely. Like many entrepreneurial journeys, mine has come with its fair share of challenges. One of the most difficult moments was right at the beginning—just days before I was set to sign the lease on my very first location, the building owner backed out. I had already started booking clients and was so excited to begin this new chapter, so that news was a major disappointment.
But as with many setbacks, it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. A couple of months later, I found a new space that was not only a better fit but also closer to home. It gave me the opportunity to build something even more aligned with my vision.
Another major shift was transitioning from employee life to entrepreneurship. I had spent most of my adult life working as a pharmacist with the security of a consistent biweekly paycheck. Owning a business means riding the ebbs and flows of income, managing everything from operations to marketing—and that takes a lot of mindset adjustment and faith. Still, every challenge has strengthened my resilience, sharpened my business sense, and deepened my commitment to this work.
As you know, we’re big fans of The Skin Design Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At The Skin Design Studio, we specialize in results-driven multicultural skincare with a strong focus on treating hyperpigmentation and restoring skin health—especially for skin of color. Our clients often come to us struggling with dark spots or uneven tone, and we pride ourselves on helping them achieve radiant, hydrated, and glowing skin in a calm, welcoming environment.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how our brand fills a critical gap in the esthetics industry. Skin of color has historically been underrepresented—often reduced to just a few pages in textbooks. That lack of education can lead to mistreatment and overlooked concerns. As both a pharmacist and a licensed esthetician, I was determined to change that. I’ve invested in advanced training with veteran experts like Pamela Springer and JoElle Lee, and I continue to deepen my knowledge through books, clinical articles, and hands-on experience.
What truly sets us apart is that I bring nearly two decades of medical expertise to the treatment room. My dual license allows me to not only address skincare concerns but also educate my clients on how their overall health—conditions like hypertension or diabetes—can affect their skin. It’s a comprehensive, holistic approach rooted in science, compassion, and cultural competence.
Ultimately, The Skin Design Studio is about more than just facials. It’s about empowering our clients to feel confident, informed, and cared for—inside and out.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something that often surprises people is that I have a Class M driver’s license and a love for motorcycles! Before becoming a mom to my two beautiful daughters, I owned and rode a Suzuki GSX-R 750. It’s a side of me most wouldn’t expect, especially in the world of skincare—but I’ve always loved a little adrenaline and adventure.
