Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Shannon Davis-Wills.
Hi Dr. Shannon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the world of mental health began with a simple desire. I wanted to help others. I didn’t know in what capacity at the time. Eventually, God lead me to my gift and calling of listening to others.
Growing up, I saw how many in our community suffered silently, often carrying the weight of pain and loss without ever seeking help. I wanted to change that narrative by helping to normalize conversations about mental health and breaking the stigma around getting support.
Today, I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas, Florida, and Colorado, and the founder of Hope Within Counseling, where I provide therapy to individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions. I hold a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration (DHA), a Master’s degree in Counseling from Dallas Baptist University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Over the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside clients and groups as they rediscover peace, purpose, and healing. I am also a certified trauma-informed yoga instructor, integrating mindfulness and movement into my therapeutic work. In addition to my private practice, I provide services for a local nonprofit supporting women, men, and children affected by crime-related trauma, and volunteer my yoga practice with veterans and their families.
Originally from Louisiana and now residing in Texas, I am the proud parent of three young adults. My passion lies in helping individuals and families navigate their emotions, build stronger relationships, and find the hope that already lives within them. My philosophy is simple, healing starts with compassion, connection, and the courage to take that first step toward change.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been smooth, but it has been worth it. Balancing motherhood and my professional goals was one of my greatest challenges. I was raising three children while pursuing my education and building my career, which meant making some tough decisions and sacrifices along the way. There were moments when I couldn’t attend every sports game or school event because I had to study or complete a project, and that was hard.
Over time, I learned the importance of prioritizing what truly mattered in each season of my life. That experience taught me resilience, discipline, and grace, not just for myself, but for others navigating their own difficult journeys. Every obstacle ultimately shaped me into the woman and therapist I am today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My practice, Hope Within Counseling, was created from a deep desire to help people rediscover their strength and learn to heal from within. I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life transitions. My goal is to create a safe and compassionate space where clients feel seen, heard, and supported without judgment.
What sets Hope Within Counseling apart is the integration of traditional therapy with holistic healing practices, including trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness. I believe the mind and body work together in the healing process, so my approach focuses on restoring balance to both. I also provide group sessions, community workshops, and collaborate with local organizations to expand access to mental health care.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Hope Within Counseling represents authenticity, empathy, and hope. It’s not just a name, it’s a reflection of the belief that no matter how difficult life becomes, there is always hope within reach.
I want readers to know that healing is possible, and seeking help is an act of courage, not weakness. At Hope Within Counseling, we meet you exactly where you are and walk with you toward a healthier, more fulfilling version of yourself.
How do you think about happiness?
Traveling and reading bring me so much happiness. I love discovering new places, cultures, and perspectives. It allows me to step outside my routine and connect with the world in a deeper way. Reading gives me that same sense of escape and reflection; it fuels my creativity and reminds me that growth often happens when we open ourselves to new stories and experiences. Both traveling and reading inspire me personally and professionally, helping me stay grounded while continuing to learn and evolve.
